I bought this for a 3 week tour of Italy and it took really nice pictures. I only charged the camera 2x the whole trip, and I took about 1100 pictures. Maybe 100 were not so great but mainly due to my shaky hand or I just didn't frame the picture nicely. Pictures were crisp, bright, natural looking. I left the Auto setting on the entire time and the camera adjusted nicely to my particular setting - outdoor, landscapes, indoors, facial, etc. Was really really happy with the purchase, and very happy with Canon products overall.

Picked this up to replace an older Canon Powershot that had reached the unexpected end of its lifetime just before a two week get away to Alaska. I hated not being able to give the camera a true test (to learn its quirks and bugs) before heading out, but there simply was no time. The pictures taken on the trip - landscapes and people came out incredibly well. What impresses me the most about this camera is the low-light capabilities... something that all previous point-and-shoots I had used couldn't come close to. People in low light without a flash actually come out without noise, and the flash (when needed - ie. a bright backdrop) filled the subjects naturally. Some of the modes are great - the ability to take night shots of the Victoria, BC skyline without a tripod was impressive. The Auto setting does a great job most of the time, and flipping to a semi-manual mode was easy and intuitive. If I had any complaints, its the images can come out a little "soft" compared to cameras I've used in the past due to the CMOS image sensor. The image isn't 'bad' though and is easily remedied through software later if need be (and only when doing some zooming/cropping). I think thats a reasonable trade off for the low light capabilities.
