1981

As NTML, Sonance pioneered many sophisticated designs for integrated audio/video residential and commercial systems.

1983

As Home Technology Systems, Sonance developed the first hi-fidelity in-wall speakers, the Sonance I.

1985

Developed and patented the first construction and retrofit in-wall speaker bracket system. Introduced the Sonance brand with the Sonance II and the Sonance III at the Winter Consumer Electronics Show.

1986

Developed the first in-wall subwoofer, a unique dual-driver speaker using vent technology.

1987

Developed the first autoformer volume control featuring safe, non-shorting "break before make switches.

1988

Developed the VCA1, the first 3-channel "room amplifier" designed for home use. One channel each for bass, left and right channels.

1989

Developed the Sonance 45, the first in-wall speaker with adjustable treble control featuring audiophile grade european drivers and a sophisticated crossover.

1990

Introduced quality speaker cable for custom installation, color coded and marked sequentially each foot to help in ease of installation.

1991

Introduced the Sonamp 260 and 260x3 amplifiers, the first great sounding, low cost amps with unprecedented stability for driving multiple speakers. Also introduced the AIS500, the first angled baffle in-wall speaker designed for ambient sound field and home theater surround applications.

1992

Developed the MV30, the world's first magnetically-shielded in-wall speaker. Also developed the first pivoting tweeter speakers that allowed sound to be directed toward the listener. Introduced Industry Upgrades, more than a dozen little black boxes that allowed system customization and increased system performance.

1993

Introduced the first dual voice coil woofer, as well as the first automatic level switching (Dualevel) powered subwoofers, the DL10 and DL15.

1994

Introduced the Director 20, the first home theater speaker with a pivoting tweeter. Also introduced the flagship D-Series line, three way speakers designed to be the ultimate in state-of-the-art in-wall technology.

1995

Developed the DL800, DL1000 and DL1200 subwoofers featuring soft-knee limited circuitry. Also introduced the VC51WR, the first water resistant volume control. Also developed the first in-wall volume controls to ever receive UL approval.

1996

Developed the Amplified Volume Control which boosts power at the volume control location allowing an amp to power more speakers. Developed the first slider volume control to match similar lighting switches.

1998

Premiered two THX certified in-wall home theater speakers including the System Two featuring all-aluminum driver elements.

1999

Introduced the world's first THX-Select in-wall home theater speakers. Introduced The Sonance Silhouette, the first in-wall speakers to rival the finest audiophile box speaker designs.

2000

Premiered the world's first THX Select in-wall freestanding subwoofer. Introduced the Virtuoso speaker line with the world's first in-wall concentric tweeter/midrange array.

2001

Patented the SonicEye™, a coaxilly mounted, pivoting midrange/tweeter array.

2002

Premiered the Ellipse™, the world's first speaker for IN-Celing Home Theater™. shipped the world's first customizable multi-room amplifier-the SAT275 as well as the ASAP2SAT, another award-winning customizable amplifier.

2003

Introduced the Navigator K2 keypad, a combination of touch-screen and hard key in-wall A/V keypad that can control multi-room audio, A/V, home theater, lighting and security. Introduced the Symphony Extreme speaker line, the first weather-resistant, heat-resistant in-wall and in-ceiling speakers.
