The ZEAL Optics brand was first founded in Moab, Utah in 1997 by Michael and Wink Jackson. Together, the couple were known to be avid skiers, mountain bikers, outdoor enthusiasts and adventurers. While participating in their favorite recreational activities, the pair realized the importance of great optics but found the market to be lacking in products that were built for great performance. The two were seeking versatile sunglasses and goggles that could work in all aspects of life, whether you're attending a family dinner or exploring a mountainside. Because of their passion for outdoor recreation, they also sought to design active lifestyle eyewear that could remain 100% eco-friendly. From there, ZEAL Optics worked to design multifunctional sunglasses and goggles using advanced eyewear technology, eventually moving their headquarters to Boulder, Colorado. Between polarized lenses and plant-based sunglass frames, the brand's innovations put them on the global map and eventually gained the attention of the renowned eyewear brand, Maui Jim. In 2010, ZEAL Optics was purchased by Maui Jim, allowing the Jacksons to further focus their sights on fashionable sustainability. Over the last 20 years or so, the brand has managed to decrease its overall environmental footprint while continuously evolving its lens technologies. ZEAL Optics has also created partnerships with a variety of professional outdoor athletes spanning sports like surfing, mountain biking, skiing, running, climbing, snowboarding and more.

All sunglasses from ZEAL Optics feature Ellume Color Filtration and premium Japanese polarization, making each of your adventures more vibrant. Ellume Polarized Color Filtration consists of high-purity lenses that filter specific wavelengths of colors. Shades of green, blue and red are guaranteed to pop when you wear their shades. This technology also reduces harmful high-energy blue light (HEV) and blocks 100% of harmful UVA/B, which can often lead to macular degeneration or the formation of cataracts. By blocking glare that can possibly dull colors, you can expect less eye sensitivity and eye fatigue with ZEAL Optics sunglasses. The filtration process also eliminates any color confusion so you can see the world's natural hues with greater contrast and clarity. The crispness of your vision while wearing the glasses can be attributed to the unique plant-based polymer they use as a bonding agent. The frames of ZEAL Optics sunglasses are made from the brand's proprietary material, Z-Resin.
Z-Resin is crafted from castor bean oil, allowing the material to be about 45% plant-based. It's extremely lightweight and durable so your sunglasses can last longer and provide more comfort with wear. Some sunglasses models from ZEAL Optics are built with Z-lite material instead, which uses Z-Resin and a thin injection process to make even lighter shades. The nose pads and temples of their sunglasses frames are constructed of a porous rubber material called ProFlex. ProFlex allows the sunglasses to hold to your nose and face in a softer, more comfortable manner. Some of the sunglasses from ZEAL Optics feature Auto Sun lenses as well, which are both photochromatic and polarized.
