The GE Appliance brand can trace its roots back to General Electric in 1907, with some of the first heating and cooling products. They currently make dependable, budget-friendly appliances that you can find in many kitchens in the country. Meanwhile, GE Profile is a more premium line of appliances. GE Profile appliances feature advanced, smarter technology and more contemporary designs.

Cleaning the GE Profile Opal 2.0 ice maker is easier than you'd think; all you need is a solution of water and bleach, as well as the ice maker's own self-clean cycle. First, unplug the GE Profile Opal 2.0 ice maker, then remove the water filter and replace it with the screened intake cap. Drain the machine, then plug it back in and switch it to the "Clean" cycle. As the display ring turns yellow and flashes, make a solution of five cups of hot water and one teaspoon of bleach. Do not use soap. Pour the solution into the water reservoir and touch the display to start the cleaning process. The yellow light will spin, and water will begin to circulate. After three minutes, the water will stop moving as the cycle finishes. Drain the GE Profile ice maker using the drain hoses in the rear. Add five cups of fresh water and touch the button. Rinse three more times with fresh water, adding more fresh water to the reservoir each time. When you're finished, switch back to "Ice" mode.

Before you begin, make sure you have a fresh GE refrigerator water filter ready to go; at Abt, we have a guide to choosing the right filter for your refrigerator. Next, locate your old water filter inside the appliance, and either spin it counterclockwise or pull the filter out, depending on your refrigerator's model. Align the new GE water filter and insert, turning it clockwise if necessary until you hear it click into place. Once it's properly inserted, run at least two gallons of water through it to remove any sediment and reset the filter indicator if necessary.

Cleaning a GE washing machine looks different depending on whether it's a top-load or front-load washer. For top-load washing machines, pour one cup of liquid bleach, vinegar or a washing machine cleaner into the empty drum and choose the Basket Clean cycle. Alternatively, use a manual hot cycle with the same ingredients, then use a hot water setting with the longest wash cycle. Run the cycle for a few minutes then pause it, allowing the GE top load washer to soak for an hour. Then resume the cycle and rinse once more with hot water. Clean the exterior with a damp cloth and cleaning solution. Remove and clean the dispensers as well, using hot water and a toothbrush. For front-load washing machines, do the same, using either one cup of bleach or ½ cup of baking soda and 1 cup of white vinegar. Run on the hottest setting, then leave the door open to air out.
