Comments about EssickAir Essick Air 6 Gallon Humidifier:

Initially I rated this 4 stars, but after summer I went to start up the unit and the bearing in the electric motor seized. I had to unscrew 24+ screws to oil the electric motor to get it going again. If you need a humidifier that takes up little floor space, then this Essick D46 720 is so-so. If you are a light sleeper, do not put it in the bedroom as it makes an occasional gurgling noise as water evaporates from the bottom pan. Refilling is a little tricky.

TRICK I LEARNED TO AVOID SPILLAGE: Do not try to insert the full tank onto the humidifier slowly. Line it up and semi-quickly lower the tank and latch it.

WOULD I BUY IT AGAIN? Not if I can find another humidifier that has the pros I want. See below. Hopefully a humidifier engineer will read this and design a similar unit but better.

PROS: Uses small amount of floor space, easy to fill tanks, high capacity tanks, this evaporative type humidifier uses less energy than vaporizer types and the unit is attractive.

CONS: In less than one year the bearing in the electric motor seized. It took a lot of time to oil the bearings. As much as I try to insert full tanks without spillage, once or twice a week I spill about a 6" puddle on my tile floor (on carpeting you should set the unit on a shallow tray), this evaporative type humidifier is noisier than vaporizer types. High speed (4) sounds like a loud air conditioner. Speed 3 is quiet, but does not increase the humidity a real lot. So I set it to 4 as I leave to work.

It is quiet enough to run all night on the two lower fan speeds. It is fairly easy to fill the two tanks and that doesn't take much time. The power cord is too short.

a wonderful piece of equiptment
By MR. glass from Eastern North Carolina on 4/2/2010
Pros:
Adjustable Settings, Easy To Use, Inexpensive, Lightweight
Cons:
Very poor instructions
Best Uses:

Comments about EssickAir Essick Air 6 Gallon Humidifier:

The biggest problem I encountered was the learning curve of installing the wicks, and adding water to the unit. Learn the nuances of the machine, and you won't break tabs or spill a lot of water. The manual does a poor job of explaining these. Otherwise, this is a very good machine.

Service & Delivery comments:

Everything from ordering, to use was easier, and better than I expected.

Comments about EssickAir Essick Air 6 Gallon Humidifier:

this product has been great to use,it lasts me a full 24hr period before it needs a refill, it humidifies a 14x80 mobile home that is very dry in the winter. when you first use it you should put it on level 3 and as it progress's lower the speed to 1 or 2 and it will maintain the humidity perfectly. Quiet motor adds to its charm, all together Iam happy I made this purchase and anyone thinking about it should go ahead and buy !

Comments about EssickAir Essick Air 6 Gallon Humidifier:

A great product. Not as loud as other reviews I researched before purchasing. Holds plenty of water and tanks click on for easy removal and refilling. Sometimes it doesn't automatically switch from tank one to tank two, and you have to fiddle with it, but it performs so well I've learned to live with it.

Comments about EssickAir Essick Air 6 Gallon Humidifier:

I have a 950sq foot condo. I move it from bedroom to living room. Very easy to handle, even with both units full. Might not need to do it, but it is my choice. I am retired and I like the room I am in with moisture. The fan started making a little bit of noise a week after using, but I will check it and see if a dab of oil might help.

Bottom Line:

Comments about EssickAir Essick Air 6 Gallon Humidifier:

I use this in my living area that is over 600 sq. ft. I am pretty satisfied with it. It does a good job with controlling the humidity. It is pretty quiet except on the highest setting (although it does make a slight shakey noise like something is vibrating on the inside - I may pop it open and have a look in the spring). Also, I did use a label maker to cover up the cute little pictures with words so that I (and others) would know how to work the machine easily without guessing.

Service & Delivery comments:

Prompt delivery and perfect condition.

I live in a highrise in downtown Chicago, and bought 2 of these humidifers to fight the dry air. They worked great for about a week. Then the motor just quit on one. A day later, the motor quit on the other one. Now I have 2 broken humidifers. Stay away from this product!!!

Cons:

Best Uses:
Dry Winter, Whole condo
Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about EssickAir Essick Air 6 Gallon Humidifier:

Great water capacity. One unit humidifies a 900 sq. ft. condo for about 12 hours on setting 2.

Quiet on settings 1 & 2; settings 3 & 4 get loud.

Outputs a good amount of humidity quickly so settings 3 & 4 are not needed often.

Reservoirs are awkward, but only needing filling every 12 hours so it's not too bad. Just don't drop one, b/c they will break easily. For best water usage, insert both reservoirs at the exact same time.

Recommend a cloth or tray underneath.

Bottom Line:

Comments about EssickAir Essick Air 6 Gallon Humidifier:

We absolutley love this humidifier. We have no idea at any time that it is actually running unless we step up to it to make sure that it actually is running. We bought this as we had expanded our house and put in new wood floors and funiture that we were concerned bout drying out and cracking/buckling. Its easy to fill and easy to hide out of the way While we have a built in humidifier in our furnace heater for the house, this unit works better. We can fill the difference upstairs even though we located it downstairs. The whole house of 3000 sf feels great.

Comments about EssickAir Essick Air 6 Gallon Humidifier:

[...]Unfortunately, the product worked for only two weeks. After finding it not working it was noticed that there was an electrical smell so it makes us wonder if the motor burned out. Now there is the inconvenience of taking it a distance for warranty work and while waiting for repairs we will have very low humidity in the house.

Abt Electronics Response: If you aren't satisfied with your humidifier and bought from Abt, please return it within 30 for a full refund. We can also service the product if you ship it back to us.

This machine worked well until one reservoir developed a crack near the bottom after about two months of usage. I got it replaced, but now I have just noticed cracks in the new one as well as the old one!! It needs to be more durable. The reservoirs are cheap plastic.

Comments about EssickAir Essick Air 6 Gallon Humidifier:

Got tired of dry air and bought this unit. It seemed to be the best bang for the buck and has proved to be so, with one small problem...it makes a gurgling noise as water from the resovoirs refills the pan around the wick. We put it in the bedroom and it does run quietly...except for the occasional gurgle. I called the manufacturer and they had never heard of this problem. I'm learning to sleep through it.

Describe Yourself:
Homeowner Condo Renter
Bottom Line:

Comments about EssickAir Essick Air 6 Gallon Humidifier:

My 2nd residence is a big-city condo and, in the winter when the gas fireplace is in use, the air is dry. I would highly recommend the Essic Air humidifier for 1000-1500 sq ft condos. I have mine in the hallway between two bedrooms in an open concept (bedroom walls do not go entirely up to the ceiling, and the kitchen, dining room and living room are an large open area) and this unit is extremely quiet on the #1 setting. You can run it 24 hours a day and release humidity into the air without vapor being seen coming out of the top of the unit, for just the right mix of air and humidity in the dry winter months.
