I received a Tom Tom GPS for my birthday; three weeks later, my husband broke it by plugging in the car phone charger instead of the GPS charger. He replaced the Tom Tom w/ the Garmin C550 GPS. After a weekend trip to DC, during which I got lost three times, I asked him to return it. Doesn't give enough lead time when making turns, much slower than the Tom Tom, and a somewhat limited menu. Also, I did not like the map display. Had I not used the Tom Tom prior to this, I probably would have thought it was fine. But I know better now, and I hope to not get lost again!

This particular GPS was reccommended to me by a truck driver. He can hear it easily in his loud cab. As a senior I thought the smaller screen would be harder for me to program, but I've found that is no problem.

I would buy from this maker again.

I travel to various city locations for my job, prior to getting the Garmin I used Mapquest which was not always accurate to the specific address. This is much better!

My only comment about this item is that it doesn't have an option allowing you to maximize freeways which can sometimes lead you down lots of backroads that don't save enough time to be worth the aggravation.

This is everything I had hoped it would be in a GPS device - I got it for my directionally challenged wife and she absolutely loves it - especially when she needs a quick Starbucks fix and it gives her all of the closest Starbucks locations almost instantly - you can do that for almost any type of store imaginable - or ATM or movie theater or restaurant - etc - this product rocks!!!

I am using the unit on a long southwest trip thru Texas and on to Phoenix,Az. So far very accurite except one motel was mixed up with another down the street,thats a data error not navigation. Got me to a small Mexican restaurant outside of El Paso,Tx off a gravel road. No problems with the unit. Savers Guide (Entertainment card)is junk, motels are cheaper when booked thru the internet.I'm using the suction cup dash mount and it works fine. Must clean dash area for pad very well.

I took it out of the box, turned it on and I was off. You don't really have to even read the manual. It seems very accurate. It did take me to a residental area and told me there was a Subway sandwich there (there wasn't, it was a two story house). On the whole, the maps are very accurate. I really like that it calls out the name of the street that you are going to turn on. It was very handy when I wanted to find a starbucks in an area I wasn't familar with. I also used it to help me with my Christmas shopping. It showed me stores in my area that I didn't know about. I haven't figured out a good way to install in in my car(s). I have seen some type of plastic clips that clip onto the air vents in the car. I haven't decided what to do yet. I couldn't have been happier[...].

Text to speech is great and the screen quality is similar to a luxury car's OEM GPSs. Have had it for three weeks and it works thus far very well on the highway and in the NYC despite tall buildings. A little pricey considering will not be using some of the features(re: trafic alert only included for trial period). Would be nice if the carrying case was a little firmer/protective but it does the job.

I originally purchased the Garmin 550 for my Wife, Being from Brazil and just getting her license she hasn’t had the easiest time find directions, going to new locations and has not ventured outside of her routine of going to work or the local market.
She now takes this with her everywhere and no longer has the underling fear that she will be unable to find her way home.

I also had the chance to use this new “driving brain” on a road trip to Nevada and California.
The estimated time of arrival, and list of all waypoints was great to have, and gave us a good idea of our expected travel times, with the exception of L.A. driving where it's anyone's guess how long it can take to travel during rush-hour, but that was expected.

The POI's and Custom POI's came in handy when it came time to find our hotel, friend’s homes and the shopping and eating establishments we visited throughout our trip.
Without this little brain to guide me and point me in the right direction, I know not only my stress levels, but my wife's would have been sky-high leading to a less than enjoyable road trip.
Luckily for us, this purchase turned out to be one of the best I've made in a long while.

bought it about 2 weeks ago to replace ique 3600. i tried out 2 other systems. Tomtom 300 and Magelin 700. Both were difficult to figure out, they lacked the preinstalled points of interest, and were not motorcyle friendly at all. i returned both after only one day and then got the Garmin c550. needless to say i didnt return it.
