This is my 3rd Garmin, but my first nuvi and I really appreciate that it fits in a pocket and can run off an internal battery. Satellite acquisition and route calculation are both fast, and rerouting almost instantaneous for when you decide to turn on a different street. The lifetime maps and traffic will keep my unit up-to-date and recoup the cost of the unit in about 3 years so that is another big plus. I also like being able to set up a login code so if it is stolen (like my 1st GPS) it becomes worthless to the cretin that took it and just maybe I'll get it back. But my favorite feature by far is the voice command which allows me to tell the unit what I want without touching it. This allows me to safely input requests while driving because I can keep my hands on the wheel and my eyes on the road the whole time. These features alone would have sold me but there are many more like easy customization, route calculation to use the least fuel, it learns my favorite routes over time, and more. My only complaints are that it takes about 30 seconds to load the maps at startup (OK, so I'm a bit impatient) and it doesn't have all my local stores preloaded in the points of interest. Even so this is without a doubt the best GPS I have ever used and worth every penny. Thanks Garmin!

alot has changed since that [$] price tag. Features like the lane assist is terrific in unfamiliar territory. gps choice of routes is sometimes inefficient or unnecessarily complicated. however, i know this gps will always get me where i want to go. Garmin should have included the case.

Only glitch I saw was when trying to punch in an address on a county road/highway. I eventually got it, but it was hit and miss as to how the address should be entered. BUT, that does not in the least make me regret buying this product---it is a great tool!

I was suprised that it generated different (better) routes than the nui 1350. However; that might be the updated maps. Instead of paying $50.00 for map update, I replaced the nui 1350.I didn't expect the voice activation navigation to be a big deal. However it works great for finding the nearest coffee shop, gas, or Restaurant while driving.

We are first-time GPS system users and chose the Garmin 2460 after considerable comparative research. We're glad to have settled on a 5" screen, which does not take up too much space on the dashboard but makes the display very easy to read. Satellite capture takes us no more than 5-10 seconds, and we have not experienced acquisition delays of the sort reported by other reviewers.
We're delighted by the clear display coupled with spoken turn alerts both before and at the point of turning. Seeing the adjacent street names is also very helpful.
The set-up guide packed with the unit is extremely "bare bones," but we downloaded and printed out the more detailed user manual available at the Garmin website. Computer-based downloading of new maps, software updates, etc. appears to be very straightforward, and the Garmin site as a whole is well designed and user-friendly.
Mainly local navigating to date suggests that the Garmin maps are both accurate and detailed, even down to the smaller spur streets and byways.
Overall, we're highly pleased with this unit, and will enjoy using it for both local navigating and longer road trips. We also look forward to trying out the voice command and several of the other more specialized features this particular model offers.
