This radio is everything it was advertised to be. Reception is excellent. I purchased this unit primarily as a daily use radio, to pick up my preferred FM stations that are 70-100 miles away from my "dungeon" of an office. My office is in a finished "steel" building with metal roof and sides, drywall stud walls on the inside and only one little tiny window. No other radio that I tried could pick up stations that far away, let alone with such clarity as this Sony radio. Sound quality is what you would expect for a single speaker unit. I haven't tried an auxillary speaker set as of yet, but I'm sure it would improve music quality. The biggest downfall of this radio is that there is no power cord included with the unit, and apparently none available from Sony (it was discontinued for "noise" through the radio). I was able to purchase an aftermarket cord (built with a power regulator and noise filter) for about $25 and it seems to work just fine. Many cheap power cords on the web are apparently having issues with "noise" coming through the radio. Overall, the radio is great but I felt like it was overpriced... although you can't get much these days for [$]. Go ahead and buy it...you'll like it!

FM & AM work great. Have not had a decent opportunity to truly try out SW/SSB. My only gripes are the inability to scan memory in descending order, the lack of a tuning knob that doubles as a memory scan and the back lit LCD is dim. Super solid radio destined to be a classic. Get one now as I hear Sony will no longer be in the SW radio game.
Comments about Sony Sony Worldman Radio:
Very nice radio especially for the price. Some features it has are usually only found on more expensive radios. Sync lock works great to cut out interference & makes faint stations listenable while SSB lets you tune in ham operators. Very sensitive, pulls in stations good with the whip & is even better with an external antenna. Blows away my DX-399 in every way.
Get one while you can, they might be going out of production.
