Comments about Samsung Samsung U5 Black 2GB Flash MP3 Player:
This mp3 player is awesome. I had an older version of it and used it for three years (for the price I paid for that ~$40, it's well worth it) and both of these samsung players work very well. The only thing I wish is there's more storage space.

Comments about Samsung Samsung U5 Black 2GB Flash MP3 Player:
I've been shopping for a new mp3 player for a long time, and I wanted to spend as little as possible because I've read many negative reviews that have lead me to expect badly designed products with short lives and no manufacturer support. So I purchased this Samsung because for the price I couldn't go too far wrong. So far I'm extremely pleased. The sound seems much better than my old iRiver, but I'm still getting used to the transfers and file organization. My biggest complaint so far is that Samsung's website claims the U5 supports flacs, when in fact it doesn't--at least not out of the box. Mine came with v1.34 firmware which wouldn't recognize flacs. I had to get the v1.51 update from a third-party forum and figure out how to install it myself because neither Samsung's website nor its EmoDio software offered any help. That's the kind of [*]service that encourages me to pay as little as possible. After updating, the U5 plays /some/ flacs, but not all. I've yet to figure out why.

Comments about Samsung Samsung U5 Black 2GB Flash MP3 Player:
Bought this for my 14 year old son, and he takes it everywhere! He's super critical, but hasn't complained one bit about it's performance. It's the best investment I've made! He especially loves it's small size because he can take it with him to school.
I prepaid for this item because it was on backorder. I received my product on time and in good condition. Very pleased with ABT and would highly recommend them!

Comments about Samsung Samsung U5 Black 2GB Flash MP3 Player:
Had a problem with playing some of my .ogg files (some other ripped in the exactly same way work well). They all can be played on my desktop, so I think the cause is in the firmware. Still, U5 works very well with .mp3 files, and it's pretty compact, and you can connect it directly to your PC without any proprietary software. I love it very much in general.

Comments about Samsung Samsung U5 Black 2GB Flash MP3 Player:
The U5 is a great compact player with adequate storage for exercise or commuting. I love it particularly for my long walking commute. The screen is relatively spartan (something I prefer in my mp3 player, since what I want from the experience is my music, not to derive some sort of pleasure from watching the screen). Some of the navigation could be streamlined. The little animated characters that come with the system are cute for about the first 5 minutes.
The menu system is relatively intuitive, though the animated transitions between menus are a bit irritating - it seems that menu navigation would proceed more efficiently without those frills.
Another hiccup is that there does not appear to be a way to change the default music folder navigation. Specifically: I prefer to load music onto the player directly over the USB connection (more straightforward than using the provided software), which it certainly allows. When I first tried this, I loaded several directories (folders by artist) as well as individual songs at the top level of the directory. On previous players I have owned, it was possible to have such a directory structure and yet have the player play all songs. The U5 instead sticks with the folder it starts in, so if I have 10 files in a folder and 5 other files outside that folder, and start playing songs outside the folder, I only get to hear those 5 songs (unless I actively navigate to the folder with my other 10 songs, from which point I only get to hear those 10 songs and not the other 5). This is circumvented by creating a playlist with all loaded songs, but it should be possible to direct the player via a system setting how one prefers it to handle directory structure.
The U5 comes with an interesting workout companion for tracking your mileage and/or caloric burn. This is a feature I need to explore further..
SUMMARY:
If you really must have your mp3 player provide you with nifty videos, then this is not the player for you. However, if you want a nice, compact, durable music player with a reasonable set of features, this one is a great choice for this price range.
