The product is great! I showed it off at work and everyone was impressed on how cool it looks. I bought 1 episode of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles to let a girl at work watch it during lunch. She really loved it! The picture quality is better than her TV. It holds tons of music and files if you need to as well. I like the time shuffle feature and the fact you can listen to FM radio if you get bored listening to your own music.

Hands down the best sounding MP3 player out of all the ones I tried. As others have stated, the Sony Walkman sonically outperforms the Ipod. The included hi-quality headphones are a main reason why the Sony sounds better than other companies' players. See, all other companies package their players with tinny sounding earbuds that don't do their products justice. Sony didn't skimp so you don't have to spend more money on better headphones. So out of the box you get that slightly bassy, large sounding signature Sony sound.

Oh, and the noise cancellation works great, not as much hiss as the previous generation of Sony players.

And if you do have an older Sony player, you will notice that with this player, the sound enhancements (DSEE, Clear Stereo, etc.) aren't as pronounced. With the older Sony player I would have to turn on all the enhancements to get that signature Sony sound. Not so with this one, and in my experience the sound enhancements make the player sound worse. Could be just me, YMMV.

Two recommendations-

1)for Sony to update their firmware to include support for FLAC lossless codec. Yeah, WAVs are supported but the files take up too much space.

2)Another firmware update to include support for gapless playback. I have quite a few albums where songs don't have a gap between songs. But on this player, their is a slight pause before the next song. If you shuffle your music then this shouldn't be a problem.

Overall, I highly recommend this product.

I love the sound quality of this mp3 player. But, I found the set up a bit difficult. The quick set guide is of very little help. The downloadable disk doesn't offer set up instructions either. You have to go to the Sony website and open the pdf file for clear, detailed instructions. Once that is done, however, you will really enjoy this player.

This video mp3 player is the first one I've ever bought. Overall I'm quite satisfied with it. The only con I could think of is it only come in black color. Wish there were more options for color. The nc ability works great. Using nc, I don't have to increase the volume so much while on the bus, road etc. As for that, it save my hearing from being damaged. Radio works fine too. But could be better if I can name the radio station that I saved.

"I recently was in the market for my first mp3 player, not certain what to expect. I have purchased other SONY products, stereo systems, and have always had great experiences. I still have an older LBT-D108 stereo which has given me great enjoyment from my college days. Well, I wanted to see what SONY had to offer as far as mp3 players. I saw the reviews for the walkman, NWZ-S738 series, so I started to investigate. Since I purchased the 8 GB walkman, I have really been able to transfer all my old CDs to this work of art. I down loaded Media Manager for Walkman to assist with the conversion. The software makes it easy to review all the songs from the CDs to see which are preferred when loading them onto the walkman. Downloading these songs at 128 Kbps is sufficient to get excellent quality of music, without taking up too much of the 8 GB available. I really like the SensMe Channels feature which sets the tone for what music interest me. If you are in the market for a new mp3 player, with the prices coming down, I would recommend this model. The price per Abt was much cheaper than the other competitors. I would recommend that you purchase the accessories after buying the walkman so to get the 20% promotional discount. The one thing most people have not liked were the use of the headphones, which can be uncomfortable to people with smaller ears. I had no problem with the head phones. Unfortunately, to enjoy the noise reduction, one must use the head phones provided with the walkman. Other than this, I have enjoyed the use of this mp3 player. Best of luck."

I intend to use this mainly while cycling and skiing. The most important thing to me about an mp3 player is quality of sound. The Sony provides the best sound that I have heard from an mp3 player. I would have liked audiobook compatibility and a player with at least 16 GB of memory. Everything considered, however, this is the best mp3 player I have ever owned.

I am absolutely thrilled to have this little machine to mess around with.I LO+VE it!! Just to touch it,even if it didn't work(well maybe not)I am still happy to have taken it for a spin!

The best multimedia device available in its class. For all the hype going around for ipod, comparing these two players, I see ipod is no better than Sony NC Walkman. Noise canceling works perfectly.
I am a music and gadget freak and listen to my favorite numbers day in day out while at work, gym and travel.
Clear Bass and Clear Stereo improve the quality of the music. I recommend this player to all the music lovers.

The literature says you must use Windows, but works with both OS X and Windows. Under OS X just simply drag & drop MP3 files to the Music folder on the Walkman and your done. With Windows you must use the supplied software.

Since I spend a lot of time in planes, the noise cancellation system is invaluable. Maybe not as "cool" as an i-pod, but too old to care; also, as a music lover, I value sound quality, so the i-pod wasn't for me.

At home, I hook it up to my Harmon Kardon receiver. It's great to be able to listen to hours of music on the sound system without getting up to change a CD.

No drawbacks so far. Some people may prefer a bigger screen to watch movies, but the compact size of this product should be sufficient indication that you should look for a bigger model if video is your priority. I mean, you don't complain about the cat you bought if you were looking for a dog...
