I feel that this is a well made product that is very easy to use , well laid out manual and very good recording quality. I do not miss the tvguide feature , they tend to be very slow on many recorders anyway. High speed dub from HD to disc is nice. Also the many quality settings to record with is very nice.

The Pioneer 640HS is a great DVR. Picture quality is great. Recording options are many, and the large hardisk, make this machine hard to beat.

This is a pretty easy DVD recorder to use. The only thing I can't seem to do is set up recordings to occur every week. I have to enter each recording every week, which is a pain with my schedule.

Recording on the HD is great, you can easily edit the movies you record off cable. The fantastic video quality is 720x480 up to 4 hours.
On the minus side . 1st - The unit records MP3s and has a feature called Jukebox but will not allow you to record them to a CD. 2nd - Has no DV input but has a S video input. 3rd - Has a USB input for a digital camera that I thought is really useless because most people have a computer.
I bought this unit for recording movies off cable to a HD ,watch the movie, if I like it I can edit it and then record it to a DVD from the HD in about 12 minutes plus have a quality video.
This is a fantastic unit for recording off cable and making simple home videos. But for MP3s , digital photos and professional home videos use your computer.
If you get this recorder remember to optimize (defragment) it if the video quality starts to waver, it will also clean up some of the movies that are too fragmented.Just a normal thing with HDs.
