Comments about Samsung Samsung Blu-Ray And Hi-Def HD DVD Duo Player In Black:

Nice to have a dual HD-DVD Blu-Ray player in a single unit however the performance on several Blu-Ray discs especially Rattatouie and Black Hawk down was very disappointing. System hangs requiring a power cycle and poor sound in the uncompressed audio mode are simply not acceptable in a unit of this cost. The other issue is that Samsung is not addressing these problems publicly and does not have a good schedule for firmware updates to fix these issues. Other issues include when updates will be available for being compliant with the BD 1.1 profile or having the HD lossless audio codec support as promised in the specs.

Comments about Samsung Samsung Blu-Ray And Hi-Def HD DVD Duo Player In Black:

The Duo produces a stunning picture and up-converts DVD to near HD quality with the Reon HQV processor. I am disappointed that the multichannel Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio (listed in the product literature) are not enabled and may not be for several months. It also has several disc incompatibilities, however the first firmware update helped to eliminate some and I expect future updates will be forthcoming as problems are found.

Comments about Samsung Samsung Blu-Ray And Hi-Def HD DVD Duo Player In Black:

I have waited patiently for a high definition player that gets past the HGD/ Blu ray nonsense. Also a player that doesn't compromise on picture and sound quality. Well here it is! Connected with HDMI and optical toslink, this player really let's me enjoy DVDs at it's best! I hope that they do not do region restrictions!

Fabulous machine and puts Toshiba and Sony to shame!

Comments about Samsung Samsung Blu-Ray And Hi-Def HD DVD Duo Player In Black:

The high definition formats via HDMI are excellent picture quality; however, when you switch to traditional DVD, the picture quality does not seem as good as upconvert DVD players. Also, the unit seems to get confused when you place a regular DVD in the drawer after having played either BluRay or HDDVD unless the unit is turned off and on again. Then it recognizes and plays regular DVDs, with an average picture quality.

The picture/sound quality is awesome! Nice to have one player for all formats! There are some issues with glitches and audio that Samsung has promised a firmware fix for. After these issues are addressed this will be a great product!
