Diificult to setup

I bought this because I use OTA to get HD programing. The intital connection setup is easy. The remote is very confusing. I could not get it to accept codes to or from my other sony products. Once I got it to work the picture is near HD quality but the sound is choppy. Using the product is difficult I had to read the entire 90 page manual to learn how to use it, to record and finalize DVDs. I work with computers in my day job and would not reccomend this to a casual user.

I finally exhausted the same model after much use in copying home dvds and vhs's from another deck; and happily invested in this replacement unit which easily meets all my needs; I was a little surprised that it seems to prohibit recording shows from PBS.

We tape golf programs on regular over-the-air TV channels and it really is quite nice. Very satisfied with the near HD quality. Very easy to setup and use timer settings. Would recommend it!

After a horrible experience with the Toshiba D-VR650...[...]..this Sony is without comparison!It is easy to use but the best part is its ability to record digital and HD antenna signals and all its incredible features. It can't be praised high enough!

I'm currently using this unit for recording OTA (over the air) TV shows. I can record and playback in 16:9. Recordings are in standard definition but with the HDMI cable it is near HD quality. For those of you who view OTA, TV will be all digital in February 2009. This unit will allow you to still keep you TV and use this as your tuner. The recorder can playback in 16:9, 4:3, or 4:3 widescreen modes.
