The following is based on one week of viewing.
Picture is fantastic except for some difficulty with very dark scenes (dark areas become blocky with distinct greyish pixels next to black). Light output is strong allowing good viewing in brightly lit room. Picture has wide horizontal viewing angle but the vertical viewing angle is not as forgiving. I was very worried about the quality of standard definition pictures on this TV but I find them to be quite acceptable. Audio is a bit weak but OK overall. The TV itself is attractive with glossy black surrounds. The power button in the middle feels cheap though. TV has some thoughtful features such as when switching between sources it automatically skips inputs which are not connected to anything.
Overall, I am really enjoying this TV but part of this is due to the fact that this is my first HDTV (first big screen too!).

Good TV, the HD is very good and bright. The standard TV pictures are OK at best. 4:3 ratio OK as well

This is my first HDTV and I did my homework. The reviews I read we almost all postive and I can see why. This is an attractive TV with a great picture. My living room is 16' x 12' and this size TV fits in just right. The audio leaves a bit to de desired but I use my home theater for most viewing and listening. I haven't got the picture to fit just right in the screen yet. It's a bit too big and cuts off a little of the top and bottom and sides. This is in the zoom mode to fill the srceen but it's a touch too much. I'll still have to play with it. HD viewing is great. I almost enjoy the commercials too.

ok, we have had this set now for about 2 months. it took me this long to write something because i am still stunned at what i see on the HD channels. we have comcast cable, and i must say the premium cable package has some HD programming that makes all of us watching just say [[ WOW!!! ]] we went from a 31 inch mitsu tv to this. it took my wife and i 3 months of research to decide on this one, [ looked at lcd"s plasma etc. and researched those as well, but for the money i thought this was the best value and looked as good as the lcd"s in picture quality. almost went with the 50 inch dlp, my daughter said come on dad get the 56. we did and we are very happy with this set. the movies are great to rewatch, the hd channels are incredible, and the looks of the set on our entertainment center is impressive. the regular broadcasts are not up to snuff yet, that is the only slight negative. i highly recommend this beautiful, beautiful set.

I'm totally amazed by the picture quality. This is my 3rd big screen - from a plasma, to an LCD rear projection, and now this Samsung DLP. I re-watched my favorite DVD's, and coupled with my HDTV DVD player, I'm noticing certain details in the movies which I missed before, like watching the movies for the first time. Awesome for its price. It's even lighter than the LCD.

Exactly as I expected based on all the great reviews I read on the internet. Fantastic picture in HD and DVD movies. It's ready to take full advantage of all the latest media like Bluray and HD-DVD.
Includes PIP which is awesome for a widescreen TV when you're watching SD channels, it's like having 2 36" TV's side by side. Only bad thing is the remote doesn't have a swap button to switch which PIP screen you're listening to. It has to be done through the menu.
It's a beautiful TV with an unbelievable picture and the price for this quality of HDTV is unbeatable.

Hey, I set on the fence for a long time, I looked at almost every set available, I checked every deal around...I finally decided to try this set because it has everything most anyone could want. So I jumped off and ordered it with anticipation, now if it only performs good in my home. I didn't have to wait long as it was at my door in a wink. My wife and I set it up in a hurry, like a couple of kids we were excited to turn it on and see the picture. When we turned it on, the setup onscreen instructions appeared and walked us through the process. After a couple of weeks of viewing television, movies and the grandson playing his games we are not disappointed it's great, even more than we expected. You too will be happy with it....Hey don't forget the stand it's easy to put together, even[...] my wife did it in no time at all. [...]Happy viewing.

After a a few weeks of research I settled on the Samsung DLP. [...] The 88 series added a few features that I wanted mainly PIP and cablecard. [...]The Samsung HLS5688W is all it's cracked up to be, outstanding picture and couldn't be happier with the product.

This Samsung TV has inputs for just about everything, including (2) HDMI inputs as well as CableCard support. The picture quality is amazing, and can be tuned to even better levels with settings available on the web. The very affordable price makes this TV the best value in its class. [...]

So far I have been extremely pleased with my Samsung 56 DLP. I opted to get the 5688 - which comes with the PIP and advanced sound system. The on-screen guides are easy to follow and the remote is well designed. The picture and sound quality surpass any other TVs I have seen. Even the HD picture through HD antenna is exceptional. If purchased, I recommend the Samsung TR50X3B DLP TV Stand - TR50X3BX.

I was the owner of a Samsung HLM4365W from when it first came out. I purchased the 5688 for the larger screen. The reviews I read about it made it an easy choice. I have to say that I was blown away by this TV. I have had an HDTV for 3 years, so I was not expecting the difference in the picture that I saw.
If you have a next gen console like the Xbox 360, this TV is definitely for you. Earlier HDTVs did not play well with the high demands of the new consoles. But the 5688 game mode solves the pictures issues that were present in earlier HDTVs. I was able to see detail that I had completely missed on my old TV.
I cannot give this TV a high enough rating. For the price this is the best TV you can buy right now. You will not be disappointed.
