Aug 06, 2010 This weekend, Apple is set to open its largest retail
store in history in London, reportedly covering over 2,700 square meters
of space - but by global standards, that's small change. Here's a look
at some of the world's other great electronics outlets.
1. Yodobashi Akiba,
Tokyo, Japan
The world's largest
electronics store, Yodobashi Akiba offers nine stories (over 23,000 square
meters) stuffed full of hi tech equipment, in the center of Tokyos geek
district Akihabara.
2. Saturn, Hamburg,
Germany
At 18,000 square meters,
Hamburgs Saturn store is the largest consumer electronics store in Europe.
3. Abt Electronics,
Chicago, USA
With an enormous 150,000
square meters plot of land just outside Chicago, Abt Electronics is the
largest single-store electronics and appliance dealer in the United States.
4. Yongsan Electronics
Market, Seoul, South Korea
With over 5,000 stores
under one roof, the Yongsan Electronics Market is the largest technology
market in Asia, if not the world (although we realize it's cheating a
little as it's made up of different stores)
5. Surcouf, Paris,
France
Surcouf calls itself
the biggest computer and digital entertainment store in Europe, welcoming
between 10,000 and 15,000 visitors every day, although its size is dwarfed
by some of the others (6,350 square meters).
