Dehumidifier Recall
Whirlpool
has announced the recall of approximately 1.4 million Whirlpool, ComfortAire,
and Kenmore brand dehumidifiers. Abt Electronics is authorized to perform
this repair work, but customers need to first read the information below
as well as follow the outlined steps:
The recall
involves ComfortAire, and Kenmore brand dehumidifiers with front mounted
water buckets and serial numbers beginning with "QG" or "QH" or
"QJ" or "QK" or "QL." The affected Whirlpool and ComfortAire dehumidifiers
were manufactured from 1997 through 2001, while the affected Kenmore
brand dehumidifiers were manufactured only in 1997. The serial number
can be found behind the water bucket. If the water bucket is located
in the back of the dehumidifier, it is not affected by this recall.
- Customers who own
dehumidifiers affected by this recall should cease operationand
unplug the dehumidifier immediately.
- Customers should then
visit http://www.repair.whirlpool.com/or call (toll free) 1-866-640-7139
to register their dehumidifier.
- Once a dehumidifier
has been registered, Whirlpool will send a repair kit directly to
each customer's home, along with a listing of authorized service
centers that are able to perform the repair.
The repair
is free of charge, and customers may call to schedule a home visit,
or bring the dehumidifier to an authorized service center once they
receive the repair kit from Whirlpool.

is an authorized service center for Whirlpool, and would be happy to
perform this repair for any one of our customers affected by the recall.
Unfortunately, we can not provide this service to non-customers.
To arrange
for the repair after contacting Whirlpool, customers can drop the unit
off at Abt Electronics’ Onsite Service Center located at 1200 N. Milwaukee
Ave., Glenview, IL 60025, or you can call to arrange for a technician

In either
case, the repair is provided free of charge.

Microwave Recall Information
The Whirlpool
Corporation has identified specific Over The Range (MicroHood) microwaves
nationwide that pose a potential safety hazard to consumers who own
them. The problem that these affected microwaves inherently possess
may cause the units to overheat and potentially cause a fire.
This recall
includes Whirlpool, KitchenAid and Kenmore brand microwave-hood units
with serial numbers that begin with "XC". The serial numbers can be
found on a label on the bottom edge of the food cavity, inside the
microwave door. Whirlpool has asked consumers who own any of these
products to take the following steps:
- Customers who own
microwaves impacted by this recall should cease operation and unplug
the microwave immediately.
- They should then contact
an authorized service center to arrange a service appointment.

The repair
will be done in your home at no cost to you. Our service department
works within the Chicagoland area only.
* Whirlpool
has had kits manufactured that will correct the problem, and we currently
have kits in our inventory to correct the problem.
* The repairs
generally take 45-60 minutes and are very straightforward. We can only
provide service to customers who have purchased their microwaves from
Abt Electronics.
