The pre-filter is designed to remove common household odors such as smoke, cooking and pet odors. The filter, which is a carbon based activated charcoal, absorbs larger items and odor particles as they are pulled through the filter. If the unit is operated continuously as recommended, the pre-filter needs to be replaced every three months.
