Since we have been following local and state guidelines since the beginning of the pandemic, we are following their new guideline and lifting the mask mandate for customers and employees as of 2/28/2022.

Our focus remains on providing quality and safe service to Chicagoland while maintaining our high standards both in-store and during home visits. If you are having a delivery or service call & feel more comfortable with our employee(s) wearing a mask while inside your home, please ask them to do so. They are equipped with the proper PPE, including masks.

Our cleaning staff will continue to sanitize high touchpoint areas multiple times a day, and hand sanitizer will be readily available throughout the store. Employees are required to report any COVID-like symptoms and exposures to their manager and are not able to return to work without a COVID test.

We will continue to offer both curbside pickup and same-day delivery to best serve our local customers.

We remain committed to the health and safety of our employees, customers, and community. We will continue to monitor the mandates/guidelines, as well as any cases within the store and adjust policies as needed.

Cook County’s new mask mandate went into effect on 8/23 and we are respectfully asking that all employees and customers over the age of 2 wear protective face coverings in our store regardless of vaccination status. Employees are also required to wear face coverings while in customer’s homes.

With the recent rise of the Covid-19 Delta variant both in our local communities and across the country, Abt remains focused on the well-being of both our customers and our employees. After listening closely to recommendations from the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), we have decided to follow their guidance in recommending that all employees wear a face-covering in public indoor settings, especially in areas with substantial and high transmission—regardless of vaccination status.

Therefore, all Abt employees will wear a face covering while working both in-store and when inside any customer’s home, as well as any time that we cannot ensure a recommended social distance of 6 feet from others. Employees will continue to undergo a temperature check and must answer a series of Covid-related health questions when arriving for work. Our cleaning staff continues to sanitize high touchpoint areas multiple times a day, and hand sanitizer will be readily available throughout the store.

These policies apply regardless of employee vaccination status.

Fully vaccinated customers can choose not to wear a face-covering inside our store. We respectfully ask that non-vaccinated customers continue to wear a mask while inside the store. Meanwhile, we will continue to offer curbside pickup and same-day delivery.

As the Delta variant and Covid-19 virus continue to evolve, we will update our policies to maintain the health and safety of our employees, customers, and community.

As Illinois has now moved into Phase 5 of the Restore Illinois initiative, we are happy to provide a more relaxed shopping experience while still following all state-suggested guidelines for our customers and employees.

Fully vaccinated customers and employees are no longer required to wear a mask if they do not wish to. We respectfully ask that non-vaccinated customers continue to wear a mask while inside the store.

Our cleaning staff continues to sanitize high touchpoint areas multiple times a day, and hand sanitizer will be readily available throughout the store.

We are pleased to welcome back many of the in-store experiences that had been closed for the last year. Fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies will be back in the atrium every weekend, cooking demos will occur throughout the summer, and our many interactive attractions have been reopened.

While we are excited for a return to the normal in-store shopping experience, we will continue to offer same-day delivery and curbside pickup indefinitely.

As we enter the winter season, we want to reassure our customers that their health is still a top priority when visiting Abt. We continue to be diligent with our safety procedures, including taking the temperature of every employee and customer who enters our building, requiring masks for all employees and customers, and performing contact tracing for our staff.

Our store is continuously being sanitized by our in-house cleaning staff, and hand sanitizer stations are placed throughout the showroom. Entries and exits will be one way only and building capacity will be strictly monitored.

To accommodate the increased number of customers during the holiday shopping season, we have expanded our curbside pickup area and will be adding an outdoor merchandise pickup station. And our free same-day and next-day delivery service has been expanded to meet growing demand from our customers.

All departments inside Abt are now fully open for normal walk-in shopping. As per state guidelines, everyone over the age of 2 years old is still required to wear a mask inside Abt. If you do not have a mask, we will be happy to provide you with one when you enter. The other preventative measures described below remain in effect.

All Abt installers and service technicians are required to wear masks when entering customers’ homes, and we ask that customers also wear a mask when in close proximity to those employees.

We have expanded our curbside pickup area and added more phone customer service representatives to ensure that wait times are kept to a minimum. You can also contact us via text. Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. are reserved for higher risk customers (seniors, expectant mothers, and those with an underlying health condition).

At Abt, we are doing everything possible to maintain the health and safety of all of our staff and customers.

With the COVID-19 pandemic, the majority of our business has shifted to online and phone transactions. As a result, we have expanded our ability to offer same-day (drop off) delivery service, curbside pickup, contactless payment options and access to our expertly trained sales and support team via phone, chat, or text.

Our delivery and service staff have been provided with personal protective equipment, including masks, gloves, shoe coverings, and hand sanitizer. All in-home visits for necessary repairs or installations are as contactless as possible. Before any of our delivery/repair staff goes on the road, we message our customers to confirm that an inside visit is safe and if not, we are happy to reschedule on a future date.

As for our retail location, Abt has always taken great pride in making sure our store is well maintained and following up-to-date safety standards. We know this is more important than ever right now. Following guidance from the CDC, we have greatly increased our efforts, meticulously cleaning and sanitizing our store hours before the store opens, throughout the day and hours after it closes.

Social distancing protocols have been implemented throughout the store for the protection of both employees and customers. Adjacent workstations deemed too close together have been closed, both on our sales floor and behind the scenes. Non-essential areas of the store have been closed and we have abundant signage and markings on the floor to ensure proper social distancing. We’ve kept staff only in vital areas of the store like merchandise pickup, shipping, and customer service. Hundreds of employees are working from home.

We’ve increased hygiene protocols for all employees. Both customers and staff are required to wear protective masks at all times while in our store in accordance with new requirements set by the Village of Glenview. To further ensure the safety of everyone in the store, staff and customer temperature checks are taken upon entering the building. People with any symptoms of illness may not enter our facility or go into customer's homes.

Abt’s first priority is, and always will be the health and safety of its staff, customers, and the entire community, and will continue to be diligent in all our practices to maintain these standards.

As a family business of 84 years, we understand the importance of being there for our community, especially in these uncertain times.

After careful consideration, we have decided to remain open with limited hours and staff, to better serve the public and allow our employees the opportunity to support their families. Our community relies on us for services and essential goods that are necessary for everyday life, from cooking and storing food to staying connected with school, work, friends, and family.

We are dedicated to the safety and health of our customers and staff and will remain vigilant with our protocols to maintain our commitment to our customers and community.
