Buying Guides - Built-In Wall Ovens

Need to save some space? A built-in wall oven may be your answer. Cabinets are usually built under and above the built-in oven, so you’ll have space to store your cookware. Wall ovens come in several sizes. There are 24", 27", and 30" widths and depending on the wall oven being a single or a double oven determines the size needed. Since the wall oven is going to be built-in, careful measuring of the location is critical.

Should I use Gas or Electric?

Gas- This type of oven requires natural gas or a liquid propane connection. You may be limited in choices of sizes and manufacturers for this type of oven.

Electric- This type of oven requires a 230/240 volt connection. This type is generally available in all sizes and styles.

Although space and energy types are major aspects in purchasing a wall oven, the cooking and cleaning are just as important.

Cooking and Cleaning Options

Convection ovens use a fan to circulate hot air around the food, cooking food evenly.

A hidden bake element makes the oven easier to wipe clean.

A self-cleaning oven turns spills into a gray ash that can be easily wiped off. Although it is slightly more expensive, eliminating the task of cleaning the oven manually is well worth it.

The high-low broil option let's you choose high or low broiling. High broiling is used for most food products. Low broiling is used for chicken, fish, and thicker meats.

Other Buying Options

- A large, clear-view window with an oven light allows your to check the cooking process without opening the door.

- Checking the internal oven size is also an important factor. An oven with six or seven positions for the oven racks allows you to bake more than one dish at a time.

Tips

-Move the racks around to see if they are easy to adjust and sturdy enough.

- Ask about cleaning features such as a removable door and oven bottom, a tilting electric element, and digital controls.

- Also ask for other special features such as controls that automatically start or turn off the the oven in your absence, digital control panels, LED displays, digital timers, even-baking features, high and low broiler or double-broiler settings, storage drawers, meat probes, and available colors.
