The dial is inspired by the traditional Japanese art of interlocking woodwork called kigumi. This traditional art is reflected in the intricately assembled two-part structure of the indexes and the depth and dimension of the latticework on the dial. The tiny openings in the dial — the result of the highest precision process technology — let plenty of light through to the solar panels beneath to keep you up to speed.

Inspired by traditional Japanese ink wash painting and calligraphy done in deep blue ao-zumi ink, the MRG-B2100R features a dial treated to a deep blue vapor deposition finish and accented with a touch of gold color on the seconds hand. Bezel components on the four corners are ion-plated in navy blue against a base of black diamond-like carbon coating.

Similar to the intricate kigumi technique, the MRGB2100 bezel interlocks 27 different components to produce a sophisticated, uniquely G-SHOCK shock-resistance construction — each one is individually and meticulously polished for a stunningly detailed textural appearance. The state-of-the-art Multi-Guard Structure incorporates buffers between the parts to ensuring outstanding shock absorption to protect the dedicated MR-G module with a gold-plated retainer plate.

The top bezel is made with COBARION®, an alloy boasting a hardness about four times that of pure titanium and a brilliant gleam comparable to platinum.

The fluoro rubber band delivers exceptional comfort, with titanium components insert-molded where the band connects to the case for even greater toughness. The band’s top surface features a design motif incorporating “SHOCK RESIST” symbols, while the underside is textured in a brick pattern.

• Ao-zumi, a hue projecting quiet strength
  An unshakeable vision fusing the MR-G commitment to ultimate strength and beauty with the Zen devotion to contemplating one’s own nature informs the ao-zumi color motif, which evokes the deep blue-tinged hue employed in Japanese ink-wash painting and calligraphy. Navy blue vapor deposition is applied to the dial and blue IP to parts of the exterior. Pairing nicely with the black DLC coating, the color tones exude serenity and depth.
• Full metal with refined beauty
  The bezel is formed from a total of 27 separate components instead of the conventional single piece. The multi-component design enables the application of meticulously detailed high-quality polishes, including stunning, distortion-free mirror finishes created with Sallaz polishing. Each part is polished prior to assembly to realize a beautiful finish. Exacting criteria for shock resistance are also satisfied by the Multi-Guard Structure, which employs buffering between the bezel parts and case to help absorb impacts to the module.
• Super-hard alloy developed in Japan: Combining strength with beauty

The Japan-made super-hard alloy makes for an exterior design that offers both strength and beauty, along with a sophisticated textural appeal. A special Ti64 titanium alloy is used for the case, case back, buttons, and crown.
• Dura Soft band ensuring durability and a comfortable fit
  The band is made with Dura Soft, a fluoro rubber material that combines exceptional durability with flexibility and a comfortable feel on the wrist. Titanium components are insert-molded into the part of the band that connects to the case, ensuring a secure, robust seating. Titanium alloy is also used for the tri-fold clasp, further enhancing toughness. The band’s top surface features a design motif incorporating “SHOCK RESIST” symbols, while the underside displays the iconic brick pattern.
• Dial design inspired by kigumi concept from Japanese aesthetics
  The latticework-like form with an intricate series of openings creates a geometric pattern beautifully expressing the worldview of kigumi, the traditional Japanese art of woodwork joinery. The openings in the latticework dial ensure plenty of light passes through to power the watch. The 12 o’clock index features an intricately assembled two-part structure. This kind of craftwork, which demands the very highest precision, is only possible thanks to the fine processing technologies of Yamagata Casio.
• Kigumi
  Kigumi is a traditional Japanese construction method and woodworking technique used for wooden joinery without the use of nails or other metal fittings. It produces forms with both structural strength and artistic design sensibility. Such wooden latticework techniques produce intricate geometric patterns, which can also be observed in other traditional Japanese handicrafts.
• Slim case with a shock-resistant crown
  A slimmed down form of the original MR-G Clad Guard Structure allows the incorporation of componentry to guard the crown. This makes it possible to maintain the streamlined profile of the 2100 line while also giving the crown shock resistance. A special construction keeps the MR-G logo, engraved on the crown, horizontally aligned when the crown is screw-locked.
