Employee Spotlight! Maura Moser

March in Chicagoland means that spring is on its way, but the cold hasn't left us yet. Warm up and read up about our March Employee Spotlight and Abt's Media Manager—meet Maura Moser. Maura has been an employee at Abt for over 13 years, though most of her work happens backstage. Unlike someone you'd see on the sales floor or behind the wheel of an Abt truck, Maura spends a lot of her time coordinating things behind the scenes. Learn all about Maura and Abt's Media below.

Starting in Custom Audio

When she was young, Maura's family shopped here for appliances and electronics—her favorite thing to do was explore the fish tank at our Morton Grove location. But when Maura grew older and found herself looking for a job, Abt was a natural spot to look. "I had come in to buy a digital camera one day," Maura said. "I was looking for a full-time job at the same time and saw there was an opening here and figured, 'Why not?'"

Maura's first position at Abt was in our Custom Audio department, where experts create customized sound and theater systems tailored to individual home's needs. Maura worked in a clerical position and was quickly promoted to the office manager. Her most common tasks were answering calls, scheduling out our team and booking travel for our installers when they needed to fly across the country to take on more in-depth jobs.

The Fast-Paced Media Manager

Maura was promoted again in 2022 to the position of Abt's Media Manager, a role that's as mercurial as it sounds. While Abt does create a lot of media (from our video department to our social media team and even the blog) Maura's role as the Media Manager is different. Her work involves coordinating events, aligning our marketing efforts, interfacing with the brands that we sell, organizing our commercials and the TV stations that they run on—and so much more. "I like my job and meeting new people, whether they're representatives from brands, news organizations or even Chicago sports teams." This Employee Spotlight is ready to tackle tasks that come in from any direction.

Something you might not expect from Maura's role? Organizing the holiday decor at Abt! When the weather turns chilly and thoughts turn toward holidays (and gift lists) it's Maura's job to design our Atrium's winter wonderland. If you've come in during the holiday season, you've seen our fountain surrounded by polar bears, sparkling igloos, toys, signs that point to the North Pole and seasonal florals. Maura works together with our woodshop and Amlings Interiors to create a polar playground here.

Coordinating Events at Abt

If there's an event at Abt, Maura and the Marketing team have likely worked hard to put it together. Summertime is around the corner, and we're already prepping for this year's Grill Fest in May (as well as summer grill demos and so much more). Maura coordinates many behind-the-scenes events at Abt, too, which can have her and other members of the team getting here early in the day and staying here long after the store closes.

On any given day our Employee Spotlight might be coordinating dates between Abt's grill manufacturers, setting up a weekend outdoor event or organizing what Abt's Chicagoland billboards will look like. It's a bit of a jack-of-all-trades position, and Maura Moser tackles it all.

A (Multi) Family Business

While Abt is known as a family business, the term "family" means a couple of different things to our Employee Spotlight. Maura's brother Matt has been working here at Abt in Sales for years, and they've had fun working together even if they're in different departments. "I have enjoyed working with my brother for the last six years," Maura said. "All of the people I have met here are like a second family. I also enjoy seeing how much Abt has grown and continues to grow."

Thirteen Years of Great Memories

We asked our Employee Spotlight what some of her favorite memories were from her 13-year tenure here at Abt, and she had exciting stories. "In January of 2014, I got the opportunity to be an extra on Chicago Fire when they filmed at the store." The Chicago Fire episode was filmed inside our warehouse, where the team "rescued" a man who had his arm "caught" in a conveyor belt here at Abt.

In her free time, Maura is an avid Cubs fan and loves sports and country music. On top of that, she has lots of fun traveling. "My favorite place that I've been is Ireland, and my next trip has been planned for Alaska." Our Media Manager deserves a vacation with the kind of hard work she and our marketing team tackle not just every day, but all year long. Next time you drive past a billboard or head to an event at Abt, know that Maura had a hand in making it all happen seamlessly.
