If you’ve been searching for a brand-new TV for your living room, Abt has hundreds of top-notch screens for you to choose from. But it’s this variety that can sometimes make it hard for customers to pick just one. How do you know which model is best for your watching habits? Buying the perfect TV for you relies on multiple factors, including things like resolution, screen size, sound and brand. Breaking these details down is vital when it comes to narrowing down TVs, especially as they get more and more similar. For many years, Samsung has been one of the biggest leaders in the TV industry. The brand is renowned for its ultra-modern TV technologies, from enhanced visuals to advanced audio and far beyond. Two popular TV models from Samsung as of today are the Samsung DU7200 and the Samsung DU8000. Both are smart, high-quality choices, only they are very similar. If you’re struggling to figure out which screen to opt for, we’ve done the hard work for you. Here, we’ll walk you through the most important differences and shared features these TVs have so investing in your home entertainment system today is easier than ever.

Displays: Investing In The Viewing Experience

As far as visual enhancements go, we’ll start with the features both TV models share, beginning with 4K Upscaling. This technology ensures that all of your content, no matter how low quality or low resolution it is, will be enhanced to near 4K resolution. This promotes improved imagery and clearer pictures every time you watch. Both TVs have two different contrast-based features as well. HDR enables the contrast and brightness onscreen to automatically reach the most ideal levels in every single frame. These optimizations are entirely based on the unique content you’re watching. HDR allows you to pick up more detail and a wider color spectrum no matter what kind of lighting the scene has.
The second contrast optimizing feature is Mega Contrast. Mega Contrast is responsible for reducing the difference between dark and light areas so various objects onscreen can stand out more. The last display component these two models share is Motion Xcelerator. This technology smooths visual movement so every action is less blurry or laggy. Improving the motion between each frame allows your content to appear seamless. Motion Xcelerator is often an appealing feature for those who enjoy action films, live sports and gaming.
The display differences between the Samsung DU7200 and DU8000 begin with color enhancements. The Samsung DU7200, for instance, uses PurColor technology. PurColor takes the shades offered on traditional RGB models and expands them to offer a wider spectrum of color. This allows onscreen imagery to be more vibrant and true to life. The Samsung DU8000 takes this optimization even further with Dynamic Crystal Color. This feature expands the TV’s color abilities to offer one billion different shades. Ultimately, this delivers more nuanced tones onscreen with more pronounced detail. Upon reviewing the Samsung DU8000’s display in our comparison video, Carl said, “You can really see improvements in the greens and the reds, in addition to improved details in the dark and bright areas on the 8000. It offers more saturated colors, better HDR viewing and just an overall more enjoyable experience”.

The next component to consider upon comparing these TV models is the audio quality. This breakdown is one of the easiest, as the Samsung DU7200 and the Samsung DU8000 share the same sound capabilities. Both TVs offer virtual top channel audio and they both have an Object Tracking Sound Lite feature as well. Object Tracking Sound Lite is beneficial for those seeking a surround sound experience without investing in additional speakers.

While these displays both optimize small visual details, Object Tracking Sound Lite allows the TV audio to follow each movement onscreen, so you can hear each detail too. If you are interested in building out your home theater system, the Q-Symphony compatibility on these TVs is a plus. Q-Symphony allows viewers to pair their Samsung DU7200 or Samsung DU8000 with a Samsung soundbar from either the Q-Series or S-series lineup. Upon pairing your TV and soundbar, the two will fully sync and the sound, in turn, will reach new, immersive heights.

Smart Technology & Gaming Capabilities

The next TV factor to break down is smart technology. As electronics and the internet get more and more advanced, we are beginning to see more and more TVs hit the market with additional intuitive features, created to take your entertainment experience a step further. To begin, both the Samsung DU7200 and the Samsung DU8000 are equipped with Samsung TV Plus. Samsung TV Plus provides free live TV to all viewers, offering over 2700 free channels and over 360 premium channels for media lovers of all kinds. Plus, you’ll gain access to thousands of top-tier games without a subscription or an external gaming console.

Both models can also connect to Apple AirPlay, should you want to view content directly from your smart device. This is where the similarities in smart technology end for these two TVs though. The Samsung DU8000 has two additional viewing styles, other than standard app streaming: Multi View and Tap View. Multi View will split the screen so you and your loved one can enjoy two different types of content at the same time. Tap View, on the other hand, is a special feature for Samsung smartphone users only. By tapping your phone on the TV, you’ll be able to transfer the photo from your smart device to the big screen.

As far as gaming goes, the Samsung DU8000 also has a leg up. Carl says, “The 85-inch DU8000 option gets a 120Hz panel that supports gaming features like 4K/120Hz and variable refresh rates, which are both great features to have for gaming on a next-gen system like a PS5 or an Xbox Series X. In addition, it’s going to have the game bar menu that lets you make changes to specific gaming settings”.  While the Samsung DU7200 has gaming hub access, a 60Hz refresh rate and compatibility with VRR, it’s hard to beat the DU8000 in this category.

NOTE: 4K/120Hz gaming is only available on the 85-inch Samsung DU8000 TV (not provided on other sizes).

Concerning Connectivity & Control

When shopping for a brand new TV, it may not occur to you to look behind the screen at the various ports available. With online streaming services dominating the home entertainment market, connectivity options might not be one of your top priorities. But having proper inputs on your device is vital for several types of viewers, including physical media collectors, gamers and those wishing to build out their home theater with a soundbar or additional speakers. Carl says, “For connections, the 8000 gets an additional USB, bringing its total to two, and it gets an optical audio output which the 7200 doesn’t have. If you’re using the HDMI ARC connection, it won’t really matter, but if your soundbar or AV receiver doesn’t have one, that optical output can come in handy”.
As far as controlling your screen goes, both TVs come with a remote, although the Samsung DU8000 remote has more advanced abilities than the Samsung DU7200. According to Carl, “The remote for the 8000 has a built-in microphone that can be used with Alexa or Bixby voice assistants. The 7200 can work with those too, but it has to be done through a compatible smart speaker on the same network. It can’t be done with the TV remote”. The Samsung DU8000 remote can also be charged two different ways: by way of light through a built-in solar panel or by a USB-C cable. The Samsung DU7200 remote, on the other hand, relies on batteries.

Device Designs To Consider

Should you put the Samsung DU7200 and the Samsung DU8000 next to one another (given they’re the same size) and view them from the front, you won’t notice much of a difference when it comes to design. Your eyes don’t deceive you there; the variations between the two are quite small. The biggest difference lies in the depth of the screens themselves. The Samsung DU7200 features the brand’s Slim Look design, while the Samsung DU8000 features an AirSlim design.
As you can see from the photos above, the side profile of the Samsung DU8000 is much thinner, making it a better option for those who wish to mount their TV. Thinner screens require little effort to become flush against your wall. The other design difference between the two is the stands. While the Samsung DU7200 has a flat feet stand, the Samsung DU8000 has a float lift stand. Outside of the visual appearance of the stands, they are fairly similar in size, so both models can likely sit on the same TV console comfortably. However, we will note that the Samsung DU8000 stand is a tad bit wider than the Samsung DU7200.

So which of these TVs should you take home—the Samsung DU7200 or the Samsung DU8000? No matter which device you choose, you can expect an immersive watching experience that’s bound to entertain you, your friends and your family. Still can’t decide on a TV model after reading through our comparisons? Check out Carl’s final thoughts on both screens for further insight before investing:
“If you’re looking to save some money and you’re more of a casual viewer, the DU7200 is going to work great. The picture quality, although not as saturated, is still plenty good for its price point. However, if you’re working with a slightly larger budget or you’re more particular about HDR details and color saturation, it is worth investing more and going with the DU8000. It’ll do better in brighter rooms and the picture is more accurate."
