Garbage Disposal

A real easy way to reduce the amount of food waste in your home is to install a garbage disposal. A garbage disposal can quickly and efficiently eliminate leftover food wastes by grinding the remains into fine particles that are easily flushed away.

Using a garbage disposal in your kitchen is a quick, environmentally easy way to remove food waste in your home. We have brands like Kitchenaid and Whirlpool. When shopping, look for a few key features when you are purchasing a garbage disposal, such as what type you will need? How much horsepower do you want? Are there any special features that you require, and does your waste go to a septic tank? Check out our full selection below.

Abt carries both types of garbage disposer systems, continuous and batch feed. Continuous feed disposers are turned on and off with a power switch. They usually have a shield surrounding the hole in the sink so things do not come back out of the sink while being ground for disposal. Some continuous feed disposals have a reverse setting to help reduce jamming. Batch feed disposals operate when a lid is engaged, making them safer. They are a good option for families with children; food is unable to fly out of the sink. Batch feed food waste disposers usually cost more than a continuous feed disposer.

The size of motor in the garbage disposal directly correlates to the units grinding ability. Garbage disposals typically have between 1/3-1 horsepower motors. Depending on the waste that you need to remove choose the correct horsepower. 1/3 horsepower units will tackle tasks like grinding vegetables easily, but more power is recommended if you will be disposing a large quantity of food waste varying from vegetables to harder to grind meats. Speak with an Abt sales specialist for more information on garbage disposals.

Some of the additional features that come on food disposers are anti-jam devices, a stainless steel grinding chamber, dishwasher connection, a disposer made for use with a septic tank, and quite operation enhancements. If you are looking for additional features, be prepared to spend slightly more than on an average disposer.

Abt carries GE, Kitchen Aid, Whirlpool, Franke, and Viking garbage disposals.
