Apple Z1U4000EF Mac Studio Desktop M5 Max 128GB Unified Memory 1TB SSD in Silver
Brawn of a new age. Apple Mac Studio Z1U4000EF brings M5 Max performance to a compact professional desktop created for demanding creative and technical work. This configuration combines an 18-core CPU, 40-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine, 128GB of unified memory and a 1TB SSD. It gives creators, developers, engineers, AI researchers and data scientists a powerful foundation for high-resolution RAW projects, large software builds, real-time 3D and motion graphics, scientific analysis and other sustained workloads.
For video and graphics professionals, hardware-accelerated media processing and ray tracing help move complex projects from playback through final output. Mac Studio can simultaneously play up to 19 streams of 8K ProRes 422 video at 30 fps,1 while support for as many as five external displays opens room for editing timelines, reference images, code, monitoring tools and data-rich applications.2 The result is an expansive visual workspace powered by a desktop that leaves more room for the rest of the studio.
Advanced AI workflows benefit from a large shared memory pool, Neural Accelerators and high memory bandwidth. Run local large language models, generate AI imagery, train and infer with local models, or use machine-learning tools for tasks such as object masking, rotoscoping and coding. Apple Intelligence combines on-device processing with Private Cloud Compute for requests that require larger server models, supporting a privacy-focused approach to personal intelligence.3 macOS is optimized for the graphics, memory and machine-learning capabilities of Apple silicon, helping professional creative, development and AI-ready applications take full advantage of the system.
Mac Studio also brings high-performance connectivity within easy reach. Thunderbolt 5 enables fast storage, display and expansion workflows, while front-access USB-C ports and an SDXC card slot simplify everyday connections to portable drives, cameras and media cards. Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, Thread and 10Gb Ethernet provide flexible wireless, peripheral, smart-device and wired networking. Inside the aluminum enclosure, a thermal system is designed to sustain intensive work while remaining quiet, making this Apple desktop a natural fit for focused production environments and multi-display studios.
Key Features
M5 Max Architecture
The 18-core CPU uses 6 super cores and 12 performance cores, while the 40-core GPU incorporates third-generation hardware-accelerated ray tracing. Neural Accelerators and a 16-core Neural Engine add dedicated resources for graphics, media and on-device machine-learning tasks.
Unified Memory for Large Workloads
With 128GB of unified memory and 614GB/s of memory bandwidth, the CPU, GPU and Neural Engine can work from a substantial shared pool. That architecture is suited to memory-intensive professional applications, complex creative assets and local frontier-class models.
Dedicated Media Engine
Hardware acceleration covers H.264, HEVC, ProRes and ProRes RAW, complemented by AV1 decode. A video decode engine, two video encode engines and two ProRes encode and decode engines handle professional playback, editing, transcoding and export.
Thunderbolt 5 Expansion
Four rear Thunderbolt 5 ports deliver speeds up to 120Gb/s for high-bandwidth storage, daisy-chained displays, genlock video synchronization and external PCIe chassis. Multiple Mac Studio systems can also be linked for low-latency clustered computing and distributed AI inference.
Flexible Display Configurations
Drive four displays at up to 6K at 60Hz or 4K at 165Hz, plus a fifth display at up to 5K at 60Hz over HDMI. Another supported arrangement connects two displays at up to 8K at 60Hz, 5K at 120Hz or 4K at 240Hz, together with a third display at up to 5K at 60Hz over HDMI.2
Connections for a Professional Studio
Along with Thunderbolt 5, the rear panel provides two USB-A ports, HDMI 2.1, 10Gb Ethernet and a headphone jack with advanced support for high-impedance headphones. Two front USB-C ports and a UHS-II SDXC card slot keep frequently used devices and media accessible.
