Wavtech THIN12-2 12-Inch 2-Ohm Professional Series Shallow Subwoofer in Black
The thinPRO12 has a mounting depth of just 3”, so it is really thin, but it does not perform like a shallow subwoofer. Our Patent Pending design allows for some big performance advantages. The dual mirrored NBR spiders and axial force transfer assembly acheive over 2-inches of peak to peak excursion. Some popular models that are 10” deep don’t have this much excursion. This is unheard of in a shallow subwoofer.
This is a shallow woofer, but it is big on performance. The 5” voice coil, available in 2 or 4 ohm, handles an impressive 750W RMS power, unheard of in a shallow subwoofer. The FEA optimized dual gap motor structure features a massive motor with double stacked strontium magnets. This maximizes flux density and control for an impressive 20mm of linear xmax. The cone is a honeycomb design, made of composite Nomex® and glass fiber. This makes it extremely strong and lightweight.
The point of a shallow subwoofer is to fit places others won’t. If it doesn’t work in a small box, what’s the point. The thinPRO12 excels in both small sealed and ported enclosures. In sealed applications, box sizes range from 0.4-1.0cu ft, with the optimum being 0.6cu ft. Ported options range from 0.8-1.5cu ft, with 1.0cu ft being the ideal choice.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
The mounting depth is 3 inches, which is exceptionally shallow for a subwoofer of this power and excursion capability. This allows the subwoofer to fit into tight spaces where deeper subwoofers cannot, making it ideal for custom installations with limited mounting depth without sacrificing performance.
-
This subwoofer excels in both small sealed and ported enclosures. For sealed boxes, the recommended volume ranges from 0.4 to 1.0 cubic feet, with 0.6 cubic feet being optimal. For ported boxes, the ideal volume is around 1.0 cubic feet, with a range of 0.8 to 1.5 cubic feet. This flexibility allows you to tailor your enclosure for both compact design and enhanced bass output.

The cone is made from a honeycomb design combining composite Nomex and glass fiber, providing high strength and lightweight properties. The surround features a double-roll NBR (Nitrile Butadiene Rubber) surround, which is durable and enhances excursion capability while maintaining sound quality.
-
It handles 750 Watts RMS power continuously and can handle peaks up to 2250 Watts. This high power handling capability ensures that it can deliver strong, clean bass even at high volumes without distortion or damage.
-
The subwoofer uses a 5-inch voice coil with a 4-layer winding on a vented polyimide composite former. A larger voice coil can dissipate heat better, increasing power handling and reliability. This also contributes to better control of the cone movement for improved sound quality and durability.
