Comparing Basic Mop Specs

Sometimes the most basic features are what makes a product a great purchase. The Bissell SpinWave weighs 9.5 lbs. and has a 22 ft. power cord. On the other hand, the Shark Steam & Scrub weighs 6.9 lbs. and has a 15.5 ft. power cord. The Bissell's longer cord can make it easier to clean larger rooms, but the weight difference is definitely noticeable. While the Shark's cord is shorter, the lighter design does make it easier to move around and plug in different areas.

Floor Types

The Bissell SpinWave can safely clean various hard floors including tile, laminate, linoleum, sealed hardwood and vinyl. That way, you can easily use it throughout your home, from the kitchen to the bathrooms. The Shark can be used on all sealed hard floors, which includes all the materials the Bissell SpinWave can clean, in addition to marble. So, if you have marble floors, the Shark Steam & Scrub is the way to go; otherwise, you'll need to consider other factors to make your decision.

How Does Each Mop Clean Floors?

To clean with the Bissell SpinWave, first start with filling the water tank with a mixture of water and cleaning solution. There are two solutions you can use in the Bissell SpinWave: Multi-Surface Formula, which can be used on all sealed hard floors, and Wood Floor Formula, which restores shine to sealed wood floors. As for the pads, the Bissell comes with two different types of pads: Soft Touch Pads (ideal for delicate surfaces like sealed hardwood and laminate) and Scrubby Pads (ideal for tough or sticky messes). Plug in the mop, recline the machine, and press the On/Off button. The pads will begin to rotate. Then, press the spray button on the handle to spray the solution. If you're cleaning a tough mess, spray the solution directly at the area, then place the scrub pad directly on top to get your floors looking new again.

As the name implies, the Shark Steam & Scrub uses the power of steam to clean hard floors. If you have young kids or pets at home, this is ideal as you can clean without worrying about anyone ingesting cleaning solutions. Plus, not having to pay for cleaning solutions offsets the slightly higher price of the Shark as mentioned above. To start, fill the tank with water and plug in the mop. Give it a couple minutes to start producing steam, then you can begin cleaning. The push of a button will change between different modes based on the mess you need to clean, from daily cleaning to greasy spills. The steam combined with the spinning scrub pads will clean and sanitize the floor. More options gives you greater flexibility depending on the type of floor you're cleaning and the soil level on the floor. The Shark comes with two pairs of their Dirt Grip® scrub pads.
