Vitamix E310 Blender vs. Breville the Fresh & Furious Blender
Sizing Up Our Two Blenders
To begin our comparison, we'll discuss the size of the blenders. Size, in this case, refers to more than one thing and some of these metrics are more important than others. The less important size specification to consider is the physical weight of the machine. This may be important to some users if they plan on traveling with their blender or storing it in high-up cabinetry. The Breville the Fresh & Furious® blender weighs 8.82 pounds, while the Vitamix E310 weighs about 10.5 pounds. So the Vitamix model technically weighs more, but only by about 1.68 pounds.
The other size specification to think about is container capacity. container capacity is a vital factor when it comes to serving size. Crafting a recipe in your blender that's meant to feed six people will require more capacity than a recipe for one. And the more ingredients you put into a blender container, the more crowded it will get. The Breville the Fresh & Furious® blender container offers a capacity of 50 ounces or 6.25 cups. The Vitamix E310 container offers a capacity of 48 ounces or six cups. While the Vitamix E310 has a slightly smaller container, losing a quarter cup's worth of capacity should not have a huge effect on your cooking. Technically, according to the numbers, the Breville the Fresh & Furious® blender "wins" this round, but in our opinion, the size category may as well be an even tie.
Get The Power & Speed You Need In The Kitchen
The next aspect we're comparing is one of the most important: power and speed. The stronger and faster your appliance is, the better it will blend your ingredients. Power and speed directly affect the performance quality of your machine. To start, the motor of the Breville the Fresh & Furious® blender offers 1100 watts of power, which equates to about 1.5 HP (horsepower). The Vitamix E310 offers 1380 watts of power, which equates to two HP, making it the stronger model between the pair. All of that power will support the various speed settings and functions each blender can accomplish. The Breville the Fresh & Furious® blender features five speed settings, while the Vitamix E310 features ten speed settings. Because the Vitamix model offers double the options, you can expect a more precise blending performance whether you're making chunky guacamole or a thin soup. When using a blender, you can choose one of these speed settings and watch the appliance mix consistently all by itself. But another way to combine your ingredients with a blender is with a pulse function. If your blender has a pulse button, this means the appliance will only mix when your finger is pressing it down. When you do press the button, it will send short quick bursts of power through the blender, rather than long, continuous mixing. Both the Breville the Fresh & Furious® blender and the Vitamix E310 have a pulse feature, so this blending style will be available for you to use no matter which model you purchase. Even so, in the battle of power and speed, the winner is clear: the Vitamix E310.
Learn The Benefits Of Good Blender Design
The next aspect we're going to focus on is design. And we aren't necessarily referring to the physical appearance or aesthetics of the appliance; we moreso want to focus on beneficial physical characteristics and the construction of the blenders themselves. Because we're fresh off discussing capacity, we'll begin with the container of each blender. Both the Breville the Fresh & Furious® blender container and the Vitamix E310 container are constructed with a material called Eastman Tritan™ copolyester. This tough polymer material is completely BPA-free and when used in housewares, it guarantees durable longevity even with repeated dishwasher cleaning and extreme use. That's right, the containers of both blenders are dishwasher safe. This container material is shatter and impact-resistant too. However, the Vitamix E310 container does have one extra benefit: Vitamix containers are all designed to prevent leaks from getting into the motor base, effectively preventing blender failure over time.
Every blender container comes with its matching lid, and Breville and Vitamix have created lids with their own design perks, too. The Breville the Fresh & Furious® blender is equipped with a Breville Assist™ lid. The Breville Assist™ lid has a unique ring pull design that ensures your lid is sealed tight during blending while remaining easy to remove. There's also an inner measuring lid that allows users to add ingredients while the appliance is actively blending. The lid and lid plug of the Vitamix E310 are both vented so you can blend hot ingredients without an unwanted buildup of steam. Just like the Breville lid, this vented design also lets you put ingredients into the blender as it's operating. Within blenders, you'll find blades that are responsible for doing all the chopping, mashing and mixing. The Breville the Fresh & Furious® blender features surgical-grade stainless steel blades, and the Vitamix E310 features laser-cut stainless steel blades.
When the time comes to clean both the container and the blades, the Breville the Fresh & Furious® blender has an Auto Clean function that can remove most ingredients with two cups of warm soapy water and a press of a button. The Vitamix E310 doesn't have a built-in cleaning function, but the same wash can be accomplished by adding a bit of dish soap and warm water and blending for 30-60 seconds. The last design aspect to consider is the blender's display screen (or lack thereof). The Breville the Fresh & Furious® blender features an LCD display that can count down for pre-programmed settings and count up for speed settings, while the Vitamix E310 does not have a screen at all. If we were to give each blender a single point for every design feature it has to offer, the final totals would technically be tied. While Auto Cleaning and an LCD display are nice features to have, the addition of leak prevention and a vented lid for hot ingredients in the Vitamix E310 feels more beneficial to the cooking process. Customers can decide which features are more important to their routine, but our winner in this category is the Vitamix E310.
Exploring Special Blender Functions, Features & Physical Components
Above standard blender operation, what else do these two models have to offer? The Breville the Fresh & Furious® blender uses what's called a Kinetix™ Contoured Blade & Bowl System. This system pulls ingredients from the top of the container back down, while wide sweeping blades hug the bottom. The Vitamix E310 may not have a coined name for its container design, but the blender does have a uniquely controlled angled vortex that systematically folds ingredients back down to the blades as well. The Breville the Fresh & Furious® blender comes with nine one-touch programs, pre-set controls that are designed to accommodate various meals. These programs include Smoothie, Green Smoothie and Ice Crush. The Vitamix E310 does not come with pre-programmed functions like these. Even so, the Vitamix model does come with a cookbook that offers several blender recipes for you to try. The Breville the Fresh & Furious® blender comes with 10 recipe cards for dips, popsicles, smoothies, marinades and more.
Another aspect to consider is each blender's compatibility with other accessories and attachments. The Vitamix E310 comes with a mini tamper. A tamper is a tool used to help push ingredients down into the body of the blender, which helps produce a smoother, more consistent mixture. The Vitamix blender is also compatible with all Vitamix branded 48- and 64-ounce containers (excluding models with Self-Detect technology) and the Vitamix personal cup adapter for those looking to take their smoothies to go. The Breville the Fresh & Furious® blender may not come with any extra attachments other than the basic blades, but it is compatible with the Breville Vac Q™. This device is a vacuum pump that's designed to improve the flavor, color and texture of your mixes. There is one extra feature that, out of the two models, you'll only find on the Vitamix E310: a radial cooling fan and a thermal protection system. The fan actively cools down the motor during operation, while the thermal protection system automatically turns off the appliance should it begin overheating. In the battle of special features, these blenders are neck and neck, but the Vitamix E310 ends up just a step above the Breville the Fresh & Furious® blender as it's compatible with more accessories and offers a fan and heat protection, where the Breville does not.
When It Comes To Blender Budget…
Our last comparison may be our shortest, but it's one of the biggest factors that contribute to customer purchases every single day: price. At the time of publication, the Breville the Fresh & Furious® blender is priced at $199.95, while the Vitamix E310 is priced at $379.95. Typically, when we compare similar products, they fall around the same price point. This is not the case for these two blenders. Upon reviewing our comparisons, you'll notice that the Vitamix stood above its competitor in most categories. Why? The Vitamix brand has been manufacturing, designing and releasing solely blenders since 1949. Blenders are the only category the brand focuses on, which allows them to put more time and innovation into each design and product line. Breville, on the other hand, manufactures a variety of small kitchen appliances, including coffee makers, toaster ovens, waffle makers and juicers. While Breville blenders and other products are known for their top-notch quality, creative ideas for appliance upgrades over time must be spread across several categories. While these two blenders are fairly similar in performance, it's only natural that the model with more advanced features and functions will be priced higher.
Breville vs. Vitamix Blender: Our Consensus
So which blender is right for you? After reading our breakdown, we ask you to consider more personal factors like:
- What do I plan to make with my blender?
- How many people do I need to feed?
- How often do I plan on using my blender?
These are the kinds of questions that will help you determine how much power and speed you'll need, and how many special features or extra attachments you'd like to take advantage of. Overall, though, customers who use their blender daily may benefit from a bigger investment like the Vitamin E310.
