Abt Electronics Reports Booming Brick and Mortar Sales Over Black Friday and the Weekend, Once Again Bucking National Trends

The Thriving National Retailer Also Sees Surges in Online Spending for Bluetooth Speakers, Gaming Consoles and Streaming Devices This Holiday Shopping Season

GLENVIEW, ILL (Nov. 26, 2018) — With a surge in consumer confidence and growing gift lists, the momentum for 2018’s holiday shopping season is stronger than ever, according to Abt Electronics, the nation’s largest single-store retailer of consumer electronics and home goods. While the retailer is repeatedly recognized for their exceptional customer service, impressive showroom and robust national e-commerce site, Abt most notably experienced a 10% year over year increase in in-store traffic despite the national trend of declining sales at brick and mortar stores through Black Friday weekend.

In 2018, an increasing number of consumers opted to purchase products on their smartphones. However, according to retail consultants and a analysts more and more retailers are selling items both online and in stores – shifting their focus to winning the transaction rather than on where it occurs. "The lesson everyone else is learning this year is what Abt has been doing all along," says Jon Abt, co-president of Abt Electronics. "Our online business is going strong, but we are thrilled to see our in-store sales grow and buck the trend in retail. The combination of great pricing, real customer service, and a truly unique 360 experience keeps customers engaged with our brand and why they'll travel from all over the Chicago area and beyond to shop at our store."

Though the Glenview, Illinois-based showroom was closed on Thanksgiving Day (as has always been the practice) to allow employees to savor family time, Abt saw a 10% surge in sales throughout the entire holiday weekend. Online, Abt experienced a sales peak around 10am on Black Friday, highlighting the impact of the retailer’s special e-commerce promotions and accessibility.

This year, as Abt has expanded into new product categories, their customers spent more than the average anticipated by Deloitte’s 2018 pre-Thanksgiving pulse survey. At Abt, customers had an average spend per order of $300 in-store and a whopping $600 per online order. The most popular items being purchased cover a wide variety ranging from Dyson vacuums and TVs to Ps4s and Roku devices.

As a majority of consumers plan to shop both in-store and online this holiday season, Abt remains poised to deliver both with an unparalleled shopping experience that offers exceptional selection, customer service, and price-matching that makes Abt unique in the retail market.
