Kenna explains her use of the new Tamron 28-75mm F/2.8 Di III VXD G2 while on assignment: Photography is a tool to experience the world in ways you might not without a camera. As a travel photographer, my camera motivates me to explore with both the pursuit of creating amazing images and interacting with humans, cultures, cities and the great outdoors. Whether traveling to new destinations or photographing where I live, the TAMRON 28-75mm F/2.8 Di III VXD G2 (Model A063) is a versatile fast-aperture zoom lens offering me high quality results across a wide range of subject matters, making it a brilliant go-to lens.
My first adventure with the 28-75mm F2.8 G2 took me on a Pacific Northwest road trip from my hometown on Whidbey Island to the city of Seattle and out to the Olympic Peninsula’s rainforests and beaches. My mission was to photograph every type of subject I could: Seattle’s cityscape both day and night, iconic architecture, dogs in the park, food details, my favorite dahlia flower garden, rainforests and rivers, rocky beaches at sunset, and natures’ magical close-ups. From day to night with all kinds of lighting scenarios, this asks a lot of one lens and the 28-75mm F2.8 G2 delivered.
Three words: bokeh bokeh bokeh. From wide 28mm to tele 75mm, this fast-aperture zoom lens allows me to photograph wide open at F2.8 to achieve gorgeous bokeh across all focal lengths. With a working distance allowing the end of my lens to be only 4.4cm (1.7 in) away from my subject at 28mm, this is a game changer for creative wide, close-up images of flowers, food, plants, still life and more. The world of abstract and macro photography opens up to create unique images that the human eye can’t even see, such as isolating a single leaf and blurring out both the foreground and background. Speckled backlight in the forest at 75mm turns into a painterly background of glowing circles of light.
Speaking of backlight, I’m impressed by the lens’ anti-flare performance across apertures. Whether landscapes, action, low-light or long exposures on a tripod, this lens’ high-resolution out to the corners pairs up beautifully with the capabilities of the Sony full-frame mirrorless camera lineup.
One reason I’m drawn to mirrorless cameras is for their compact size and lightweight body. With the new 28-75mm F2.8 G2 I can enjoy the ease of carrying my camera around all day with a lightweight durable smooth lens. When I only want to carry one lens with me, I expect the 28-75mm F2.8 G2 to be that top choice as I create memorable images of both my travels and daily life.
