Welcome Home, Apple: Apple Announces the HomeView Display
HomeView: The Ultimate Smart Home Hub
By far, the biggest announcement in this launch is the HomeView smart hub and display. It can be used as a tabletop product or wall-mounted, which allows it to seamlessly integrate into your home on a literal level. As with just about every new Apple release, HomeView comes with Siri AI for even more seamless control. Like we saw with the new generation of iPhone, you can start a conversation with Siri on HomeView, and continue the conversation on your iPhone or iPad. You can ask Siri to start a timer for cooking, check your calendar, or set a reminder to do that thing you've been putting off, all with natural, conversational voice controls. Four microphones can pick up your voice from a distance, so you can give Siri a command from the other side of the room. HomeView can recognize up to six people and personalizes the experience for each person, which is especially nice for households with kids. HomeView also has integrated speakers with Spatial Audio for surprisingly great audio, whether you're listening to your favorite podcast while you cook dinner or have a dance party with the kids. There's support for FaceTime, too. HomeView will retail for $299, and launches on November 13.
A New Generation of Apple TV
The new Apple TV 4K was also announced alongside the HomeView. It will retail for $299, and the big draw (besides the 4K picture) is the updated A19 chip for faster processing and better graphics performance. It also comes with a redesigned remote with Find My that makes a sound if you can't find it. Notably, it's designed for better integration with Siri AI, which is also available on newer generations of iPhone. It's clear from all of these launches that Apple is positioning itself as a whole-home companion. We should note that this is a price hike from the last generation of Apple TV 4K, which retailed for $199.
HomePod mini 2, Now in New Colors
We're also getting the new HomePod mini 2, which works as a speaker and a virtual assistant. While they're available in familiar black and white options, HomePod mini 2 also comes in blue, green and pale pink shades that feel distinctly design-forward. They'll retail for $149, a small increase from the previous model's $129. You can connect HomePod mini 2 and HomePod in combinations of two or four for stereo or surround sound, too. And, of course, the new generation of HomePod also supports Siri AI. This integration makes it easy to play your music, ask the weather forecast and more. Best of all, HomePod mini 2 acts as a smart home hub, making it the perfect companion to the last of Apple's new launches…
Meet the Apple Home Collection
You can now keep your home secure with Apple products. Apple Home Collection consists of indoor and outdoor cameras, thermostats, temperature sensors, and a video doorbell and door lock, developed in partnership with tech leaders LG Electronics and Schneider Electric. Setup is incredibly simple, starting with just a tap on your iPhone. From there, you can manage your devices in the Apple Home app. The items in the Apple Home Collection can also be controlled via HomePod mini, so you can keep an eye on your front door, shut the garage or double check that you locked the door. Apple is definitely trying to create a full ecosystem, introducing new products that can be controlled by familiar items like iPhone or HomePod. The Apple Home Collection will be available starting in December.
