Beekeeping with Abt

Being an environmentally friendly company is important to Abt, and we always strive to find new ways to help the environment. As of this year, Abt has opened two honey bee colonies to begin our beekeeping journey. The colonies are located on the store's rooftop to promote a rooftop garden of flowers and greenery. Honey bees are vital not just to the human race but to the environment as a whole. They ensure that nearly 85% of all food crops get pollinated and assist in keeping plants and flowers thriving. This ensures the environment stays prosperous throughout the year. While it may not seem like it, these bees live at great risk in the wild. Beekeeping helps protect these creatures from a variety of dangers including pesticides and climate change. By starting this process ourselves, Abt aims to help give back to the planet.

However, honey bees don't just pollinate the plants around them: they create products that provide a wide range of benefits. Whether drizzled over desserts or added in tea, honey does more than only add a hint of rich sweetness. Honey also contains anti-bacterial properties that have been shown to fight off both bacteria and infections. But honey bees don't only produce honey; they convert the honey into beeswax. This byproduct has multiple uses including beeswax candles and acting as a preservative for certain foods and products. Each of these products would not be possible without the honey bees and their pollination.
