CES 2025: A Closer Look At Stern Pinball's Newest Game
The first day of CES 2025 is in full swing, and our team has already seen some amazing innovations and tech breakthroughs. One of the most entertaining booths we visited was Stern Pinball, the world's largest designer and manufacturer of pinball machines. Fun fact: Stern's factory is located in Elk Grove Village. While they may be close to our home base in Glenview, the only opportunity to see their newest product is at CES 2025.
Dungeons & Dragons: The Tyrant's Eye
The latest release from Stern Pinball is Dungeons & Dragons: The Tyrant's Eye. You've probably heard of D&D, but we'll give you a refresher. Dungeons & Dragons is a fantasy tabletop roleplaying game that requires dice, character sheets and a well-planned campaign drafted by a participant dubbed the Dungeon Master.Campaigns, another name for the gameplay storyline, can last for hours or even multiple sessions depending on how detailed your campaign is. While you may think this game wouldn't work via pinball, Stern Pinball has adapted D&D in a unique, fun way.
Dungeons & Dragons: The Tyrant's Eye is a celebratory release for Stern Pinball, launching on the 50th anniversary of the original game. Players begin as members of the Dragonshield Guild and are tasked with conquering the dragon queen Tiamat. Tiamat has hatched a plan to rise to power, in turn triggering the War of the Dragons.Infamous D&D enemies are called to the frontlines to fight for glory too, including characters like Xanathar the Beholder, Balinor and Sammaster the Lich. The journey to victory leads players through forgotten realms like Arabel and Westgate, all while taking hidden passageways and exploring dynamic levels accessed through a disappearing trap door.
There are also fun features like Fizmo's store, where you can acquire unique game items, and a treasure chest that holds and releases mimic monsters. D&D fans will be pleased to see other popular characters like Owlbears and the gelatinous cube, which is electromagnet-powered to freeze your pinball and sabotage your play. The biggest highlight of Dungeons & Dragons: The Tyrant's Eye is the red dragon, Rath the Relentless. Rath is being coined the most advanced animatronic mech in the pinball industry. This mech is engineered to intelligently react to play action using omnidirectional impact sensing technology and multi-axis motion.

The pinball machine will come in three different models: Pro, Premium and Limited Edition. To honor the original 1974 D&D release, the Limited Edition machines will be limited to 740 games globally.
