Suction Power: Comparing the Motors of the Dyson V12 vs. V15
To preface, you should know that both of these vacuums are great options; it's more about your cleaning needs. But there are important differences between them. One of the most important factors is the motor, which determines the suction power of a vacuum. The V12 boasts 150 air watts of suction power, while the V15 has 230. The V15's 230 AW power puts it on par with some upright vacuums, so it's quite powerful. On the other hand, the slightly smaller motor makes the V12 lighter, and some users might prefer a lightweight appliance. So in this instance, you'll need to decide if power or comfort are more important; if you don't have pets that shed or have less demanding cleaning to do, you'll probably be satisfied with the V12. If you want the strongest cleaning power, the V15 is the better choice.
Bin Capacity & Emptying
The Dyson V12 has a 0.1 gallon bin capacity, while the V15 has a .2 gallon capacity. While those numbers may seem small, it does mean that the V15's bin is twice as large. Similar to how we discussed suction power above, both vacuums have large enough bins, but the V15's larger bin makes it ideal for more frequent or more intense cleaning. Their bins empty the same way, too, with a "point and shoot" mechanism that ejects debris in one motion.

Both vacuums have a 60-minute battery life, with five minutes of run time on Max mode.
Design
At first glance, these vacuums look incredibly similar, but there are a few differences as well. They both have thin, cordless designs and both can be converted to a handheld unit. They both have an LCD screen where you can select from three different cleaning modes. The buttons to toggle between the cleaning modes are slightly different, but we don't think it has much impact on the user experience. On the other hand, the V12 is turned on with the push of a button, while the V15 has a trigger. Some may prefer the convenience of the single touch, while others might like the easier control and ability to vacuum in short bursts that the trigger button offers.
Vacuum Attachments
The V12 and the V15 have the same five attachments: the Fluffy Optic cleaner head, the Motorbar cleaner head, a hair screw tool, a combination tool and a crevice tool. The Fluffy Optic attachment is what really sets these vacuums apart from other models: it features a green light that illuminates dust and other particles on hard floors, ensuring a more thorough clean. They both come with a wand clip that lets you keep additional attachments on the vacuum to easily swap as you clean your home.
