Niles and Morton Grove also offer fertile ground to business large and small. A business well known to both communities is Abt Appliances & Electronics.
The 62-year-old family-owned store was located in Niles for 20 years before moving to its current 130,000-square foot home at 9000 N. Waukegan Rd. in Morton Grove in December 1991, says Billy Abt, a vice president. The Abt family likes the area because of its strategic location between the Edens Expressway and the Tri-State Tollway. "We draw [customers] from as far north as Milwaukee, and from Indiana and southeast Michigan too," Abt says.
Store management and personnel have always had a "real good relationship" with the residents and village government of Niles and Morton Grove, he says. "Morton Grove is a friendly community. "It has a small-town feeling to it. It really has a lot to offer. There are a lot of businesses and a lot of community events."
