First, you'll want to open up your dishwasher and remove the bottom rack. At the bottom of your dishwasher is a piece set into the bottom: that's the filter. Twist it to the left to remove, pulling it up and out. This section can be cleaned by using something like a soft bottlebrush or an old toothbrush. There's a second piece, too: clean this piece with hot water in the sink. The final piece is a wire mesh cylinder, and filters out larger particles. Clean with a soft-bristled toothbrush and water to avoid damage. Once all three are clean, you'll place them back in in the correct order.
