Refrigerators have evolved since their conception from the standard, bulky, icebox to just about any size or shape one could imagine. It was actually 40 years from the time refrigerators were commercially used to the time they were safe for home use. The first refrigerators were for commercial use only because they used toxic gas, which leaked at times, making them unsafe for use at home.
When refrigerators became safe for home use, around 1915, they all looked pretty much the same. The icehouse (or refrigerator) was used by placing ice cold water, from mountain run-off, or snow in the icebox to keep items cool which would only work some months out of the year. In the hot summer months, there was no ice or cold water to keep items cold and ice makers were still a long way off.
Refrigerators have come a long way since the archaic icebox. Now they come in all shapes and sizes with optional separate refrigerator and freezer units. Esthetically, refrigerators are no longer cumbersome. They can blend into your decor like a chameleon - if that’s what you would prefer. They can be built-in, side-by-side, under the counter, even dorm-sized.

Installation on in-stock refrigerators can usually be done as quickly as the day after purchase, excluding Wednesdays and Sundays. Refrigerators can be delivered to Abt’s out-of-state customers in approximately 7-10 business days. Most refrigerators are available to ship right away, excluding special order units.
Abt offers warranties on all refrigerators. Any warranty service for Chicagoland customers would be done by Abt. Warranty service outside of the Chicagoland area is fulfilled by authorized service centers chosen by the refrigerator manufacturer and Square Trade.
