Nikon 20135 NIKKOR Z 120-300mm f/2.8 TC VR S Super-Telephoto Zoom Lens
The Nikon 20135 NIKKOR Z 120-300mm f/2.8 TC VR S is a professional S-Line super-telephoto zoom lens combining a constant f/2.8 maximum aperture, a built-in 1.4x teleconverter for 420mm reach at f/4, and Silky Swift VCM autofocus. Compatible with FX- and DX-format Nikon Z mirrorless cameras, it offers up to 6.5 stops of Vibration Reduction with supported Synchro VR equipment and the teleconverter disabled. From basketball and figure skating to distant wildlife, its 2.5x zoom lets you change framing from a fixed shooting position without changing lenses.
Key Features
120-300mm Flexibility With a Constant f/2.8 Aperture
Follow developing play, then tighten the composition around an athlete or animal as the moment unfolds. The bright native aperture supports action-stopping shutter speeds and lower ISO settings throughout the zoom range. It also helps separate your subject from distracting backgrounds, giving sports and wildlife photographs a clear visual focus.
Built-In 1.4x Teleconverter and DX Reach
Engage the optical teleconverter without changing your grip or looking away from the subject. Maximum aperture becomes f/4 as reach extends to 420mm, keeping more distant action within the same lens's range. With the converter engaged, DX crop provides up to a 630mm-equivalent angle of view. On the Nikon Z9, automatic DX crop switching using the built-in converter requires firmware C:5.30 or later.
Silky Swift VCM Autofocus
Silky Swift VCM pairs speed and precision with low operating noise for still photography and video. AF scan time is 60% shorter at the wide end and approximately 30% shorter at the telephoto end than the F-mount predecessor, supporting focus acquisition during fast-moving assignments.1 A/M auto-priority manual operation adds manual focus control while reducing unintended switching.
Up to 6.5 Stops of Vibration Reduction
At long focal lengths, Vibration Reduction helps compensate for camera shake while you compose and photograph sports or wildlife. Synchro VR delivers up to 6.5 stops of compensation with a supported camera and the built-in teleconverter disabled.2 Camera compatibility, operating mode and the teleconverter configuration matter when assessing the stabilization rating.
Extraordinary Image Quality
Meso Amorphous Coat and ARNEO Coat address reflections that cause flare and ghosting, helping when subjects are backlit. The 30-element, 24-group optical construction includes ED, Super ED, fluorite, SR and aspherical elements. ED, Super ED and SR materials address chromatic aberration, while fluorite reduces optical mass as part of the S-Line design.
Internal Zoom and Balanced Handling
Neither zooming nor focusing extends the barrel. A rearward center of gravity supports panning without zoom-induced balance changes, helping you follow action as you adjust framing. Magnesium-alloy construction and extensive sealing suit demanding assignments, although complete dust and drip protection is not guaranteed in every situation. Fluorine Coat assists removal of water, dust, grease and dirt from the optical surface.
Screw-Type Arca-Swiss Tripod Mounting
Mount directly to a compatible screw-type Arca-Swiss clamp without adding a separate plate. Lever-type clamps may not secure the lens adequately and are not recommended. The tripod collar also incorporates a rubber cushion and finger grip for handling between shooting positions.
Front and Rear Filters With an Included HB-120 Hood
Choose 112mm front screw-on filters, 46mm rear slip-in filters or both positions together to suit your setup. The rear filter holder is supplied. The included HB-120 hood has no projecting parts, simplifying attachment, removal and storage when moving between assignments.

Footnotes:
1 AF scan-time reductions compare with the AF-S NIKKOR 120-300mm f/2.8E FL ED SR VR: 60% at the wide-angle end and approximately 30% at the telephoto end.
2 The up-to-6.5-stop rating is measured under CIPA 2024 conditions using a Nikon Z6III, with yaw/pitch/roll compensation at the telephoto end in NORMAL mode, no attached teleconverter and the built-in teleconverter disabled. A camera supporting Synchro VR is required.
Measured performance figures are based on manufacturer testing under specific conditions and vary with shooting conditions, camera settings and use.
Warning: Do not use this product if you have a pacemaker or another medical device. Magnets in the lens can interfere with the device.
