The Perfect Man Cave TV

January 24, 2008

Eric Gwinn | Gadget Adviser

Asked to suggest the perfect TV for the Man Cave, I was left flabbergasted. Who would put just ONE television in a Man Cave?! What are we, animals?

You'll need four TVs, at least, because who has time to be flip around among basketball, football and "When Sharks Attack"?

So, pick up three or four Pioneer 60-inch Elite Kuro 1080p plasma HDTVs ($6,500 at Abt Electronics, 1200 N. Milwaukee Ave., Glenview; 800-860-3577). Plasma TV in a dark grotto of a room produces rich, cinema-like viewing. But they don't handle video games as well as an LCD can, so don't come home without a Sharp Aquos 37-inch 1080p LCD with Vyper Drive too. It easily has enough inputs to handle a Wii, a PlayStation 3 and an Xbox 360, so everybody's happy.

I could have suggested Panasonic's wonderful 150-inch plasma HD set that's 11 feet tall, but you'd need to be about 19 feet away to view it properly, and that puts the sofa in the middle of our indoor basketball court.
