Abt Electronics Announces Warehouse and Showroom Expansion

Glenview, IL Retailer Will More than Double Its Warehouse Space in Response to Rising Sales and New Merchandise Offerings

May, 2021

GLENVIEW, IL., May 11, 2021 — Abt Electronics, the largest independently-owned, single-location electronics, appliances, and home goods retailer in the United States is expanding its warehouse and showroom to accommodate an increase in sales as well as an expanded lineup of merchandise.

Located adjacent to Abt's 114,000-square-foot showroom and its existing warehouse, the expansion will add an additional 407,294 square feet of warehouse space, which is more than double the current size of the warehouse. It will also provide more space for Abt's 400 delivery and service trucks. An additional 22,230 square feet of office space is also being built in response to Abt's continued growth. The expansion is estimated to create about 100 new jobs for the company. Abt co-president Jon Abt explained that the expansion will improve the retailer's efficiency: "We'll have less stock-outs and be able to expand some product lines." Abt's current offering includes everything from kitchen appliances to fitness equipment to televisions.

Additionally, Abt has worked to keep more inventory on hand to mitigate supply chain disruptions during the pandemic. With customers buying larger items like bigger TVs and refrigerators, warehouse space is more valuable than ever. The expansion will allow Abt to more efficiently store products that customers are buying the most while also adding space for new product lines. The expansion is scheduled for completion in October, after which Abt will close the warehouse they have been leasing in Lake County since 2020.

This is not the first time Abt has expanded in response to growing sales and customer demand. The 85-year-old retailer added 100,000 square feet to its warehouse in 2016, which Jon Abt expected to fulfill the company's needs for decades. Instead, new product lines and increasing sales have necessitated another expansion after only four years. Abt's in-store sales have increased over 30% in the past year.

Abt also expanded its recycling center this year as part of their green initiatives. For more information about Abt's facilities, visit: https://www.abt.com/about
