Nation's Largest Single-Store Retailer Just Got Bigger!

Abt Unveils New, State-of-the-Art Warehouse

Abt Electronics and Appliances in Glenview, IL already holds the title of the largest independent, single-store retailer of appliances and electronics in the country — and now it is even larger. Abt has added 93,000 square feet (nearly the size of its impressive 100,000 sq. ft. showroom) of state-of-the-art space to the already massive 200,000 sq. ft. warehouse, continuing the retailer's innovation in the field.

"In simple terms, we needed more space," says Co-President Mike Abt. "With this warehouse expansion, our main goal is to service our customers in the best manner possible and allow us to be more efficient in all ways that we operate by providing expanded inventory, inventory space, resourceful delivery systems and more."

Below, you can find some of the impressive additions that are propelling Abt further into the future of retail with this expanded warehouse.

  • New Crown TSP 7000 Turret Trucks to maneuver through the Very Narrow Aisle (VNR) racks. These innovative truck are faster, more solid and more energy efficient reaching heights of 675".
  • Motion-sensored LED lighting, which uses 80% less energy than standard lighting
  • Over 7,000 racks to house substantially more inventory
  • 23 more outbound and 5 more incoming loading docks for quicker, efficient deliveries
  • 50 foot ceilings paired with narrow aisles providing 4x the storage in the same space
  • Three-story service center for indoor loading
  • Additional space for Appliance Parts and Appliance Repair Department
  • Seeking upgraded distribution software to ensure customers can pick up items from the store as fast as possible

This excitingexpansion comes on the heels of the family-owned retailer earning "National Service Partner of the Year" by world-leading home appliance manufacturer BSH Hausgeräte GmbH (BSH).Abt scored top marks in turnaround time for service visits, best average quality of parts used, lowest average cost per call, least repeat service visits and winning customer surveys.
