The KEF SP4055A1AA R7 Meta in White Gloss is the powerful yet flexible mid-sized floorstanding loudspeaker in the R Series Meta line. Developed for listeners seeking premium passive HiFi performance, it brings technology derived from KEF's Reference range to both music and movie sound. This three-way bass-reflex speaker can anchor a traditional two-channel listening system or serve as a front channel in a tonally matched R Series home theater. Sold individually, it gives system builders the freedom to create the setup that fits their room and listening goals.

At the center of the R7 Meta is KEF's 12th generation Uni-Q driver array, engineered to behave as a point source and spread natural, detailed sound evenly throughout the room. Its design reduces dependence on a narrow sweet spot, helping more listeners hear a clear and coherent presentation. Metamaterial Absorption Technology uses a complex, maze-like structure to absorb 99% of unwanted sound from the rear of the driver, reducing the distortion that can obscure detail.¹ Carefully shaped cabinet geometry further supports the Uni-Q array so high-frequency information reaches the room with greater clarity.

Two 6.5 in hybrid aluminium bass drivers give the R7 Meta the speed, control and impact needed for dynamic music and cinematic soundtracks. The dedicated three-way architecture assigns high, midrange and low-frequency reproduction to purpose-built drivers, supporting transparency and realistic full-range performance. A computationally developed flexible port helps keep bass cleaner, while constrained-layer cabinet damping limits vibration and coloration. The dedicated magnetic microfibre grille balances protection and appearance with acoustic performance, allowing the White Gloss speaker to look refined with the grille on or off. As a passive loudspeaker, the R7 Meta requires an external amplifier; KEF recommends 15 - 250W.

The Uni-Q array places a 1 in vented aluminium dome tweeter with MAT at the acoustic center of a 5 in aluminium midrange cone. Bringing these drivers together helps their output reach the listener as a more unified wavefront, widening useful room coverage for shared listening.

A Flare for Detail

Shadow Flare creates a profiled transition between the Uni-Q array and the cabinet. By extending the array's waveguide effect and reducing diffraction at the cabinet edge, it lets treble energy escape more naturally and preserves subtle high-frequency information.

True Bass Definition

Each low-frequency cone combines a shallow concave aluminium skin with a paper cone. This two-part construction is engineered for stiffness and piston-like movement, while a broad, uniform magnetic field supports the accuracy, punch and immediacy of bass transients.

Flexible Port for Cleaner Bass

KEF uses computational analysis to optimize the bass-reflex port profile. Flexible port walls delay the onset of turbulence and suppress resonances that could otherwise color the midrange, helping low frequencies remain articulate as output rises.

Performance Critical Damping

Internal braces connect to the cabinet through a lossy interface for constrained-layer damping. Unwanted structural energy is converted into heat instead of being allowed to add its own character to the sound.

Dedicated Microfibre Grille

The suede-like, multi-layer grille uses magnetic fixings for a secure, clean fit. Its 1801 precision-cut holes for each driver are arranged to maintain acoustic performance while providing protection and a refined appearance.
