Employee Spotlight! Gary Allen

Gary started pursuing his passion for cars early on. At age six, he started working on cars alongside his older brother. When his brother asked for a wrench, he was the assistant who would find the right one. The two had fun learning all about how different cars worked from the inside out. By age 17, our Employee Spotlight was learning more about the electronics side of auto work—from here, he began to pursue his true passion of becoming a professional in the world of car audio.

All kinds of cars come to Abt for an audio boost, from the eco-friendly Prius to luxury and foreign sports cars like Lamborghinis, McLarens, and Ferraris. Gary and the rest of our Mobile Install team members work on every car with pride, upgrading audio capabilities for better sound quality. That means more clarity in every song, boosted bass, and better highs than you'd ever get from a set of factory speakers or a factory radio. Every day is a new adventure with new autos coming through the garage door.

"We get to see a lot of amazing vehicles, boats and motorcycles. Being a car guy, every day I get to work on cool stuff. This job has allowed me to interact with things that most people do not get to experience, from working on high-end supercars to yachts in the harbors of downtown. It changes every day, and there is always something new and exciting to do."

So we had to ask our Employee Spotlight an important question: what's your favorite car? He's worked on so many that an expert opinion matters. Before Gary started here, he worked with Porsches and Porsche racing. That might be one of the reasons why his favorite car is a Porsche 911 GT3 RS. "It's an amazing car with great handling and power…it's a race car."

Our Employee Spotlight gets asked one other key question all the time, too: What's the most expensive car you've ever worked on? "To be honest, I don't really keep track, but there have been a few that were over a million dollars."

Gary's favorite memories over two decades of working here aren't about testing out audio behind the wheel of an Italian sports car—they're about sharing the fun of auto work with others. Abt gives tours to visitors like high schoolers, young kids and people with special needs, and our Employee Spotlight loves getting to see that boost of excitement when they enter the shop.
