If you have a brand new laptop, you want to be sure it's ready for taking notes, writing papers, editing videos or whatever else your schoolwork requires. If this is your first time purchasing a laptop, it's especially important to set it up properly. If you already have a laptop you love, there are several ways you can maximize the life of the battery and boost performance when you're doing more demanding tasks.

1. Keep your battery percentage between 20%-80% to maximize the life of the battery.
2. Perform regular shutdowns.
3. Disable unnecessary startup apps.
4. Keep the laptop on a flat surface to prevent overheating.
5. Enable "Best Performance" in power settings on Windows machines.
6. Perform all necessary updates.
