G Master optics preserve the fine detail that distant subjects demand. Three Super ED elements and one ED element work within the advanced optical design to minimize chromatic and other aberrations, maintaining high resolution from the center of the image to the edges. Nano AR Coating II suppresses flare and ghosting so backlit scenes retain superior clarity and contrast. An 11-blade circular aperture and individually optimized spherical aberration complement that sharpness with smooth, creamy bokeh, helping wildlife and sports subjects stand apart from the background.

Performance and practical operation keep this 600mm prime ready for demanding field work. Responsive autofocus is designed to follow fast-moving subjects, while built-in Optical SteadyShot reduces camera shake during handheld super-telephoto shooting. Fast, Precise, Quiet Autofocus

Two XD Linear Motors work with a lens-specific control algorithm to follow birds, wildlife and athletes in rapid motion. The focusing system also supports Alpha 9 III continuous shooting at up to 120 fps with AF/AE tracking under Sony test conditions.⁴

Built-In Optical SteadyShot

Optical stabilization helps manage the exaggerated effects of camera movement at super-telephoto focal lengths. With a supported Alpha body, the lens can participate in coordinated stabilization control, while Active Mode assists movie capture and other mobile shooting situations.

Direct Controls for Fast Operation

Four customizable focus-hold buttons offer access from multiple shooting orientations. A focus-range limiter, Full-time DMF switch, focus-mode switch and image-stabilization mode switch help photographers adapt quickly, while the customizable function ring adds another camera-dependent control option.⁵

Optional Reach to 1200mm
